CENTER FOR MARITIME INTERNATIONAL STUDIES

Center for international studies (CIS) was founded at Admiral Nevelskoy Maritime State University in 2003. Its staff was responsible for monitoring international situation in Asia-Pacific region; conducting researches in such areas as regional security and international cooperation; implementing innovative projects under the concept of public diplomacy; coordinating scientific conferences and workshops; and publishing scientific materials.

15 research papers were completed, 11 research and innovative projects were implemented, over 20 conferences and round tables were held and 15 monographs and over 50 scientific articles were published by CIS for the last 7 years.

«CIS information and analytical bulletin, published for those interested in problems of development and international cooperation, security and socio-political processes in APR, issues of civil society, peace-keeping activity, the past and the present of Russian Far East, as well as «round tables» on Korean peninsula situation analysis became «landmarks» of CIS.

One of the significant and large-scale international projects over the history of CIS existence was the Workshop on Maritime security and regional cooperation in NEA which was held jointly with Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (Honolulu, USA) in November 2010.

The development of Russian higher education requires improving organization of researches, innovation and education at universities. It was decided at MSU to follow the way of creation of scientific and educational centers integrating efforts of scientists, experts, post-graduate and graduate students. Scientific research institute of maritime transport was created and incorporated Center for maritime international studies (CMIS, the successor of CIS) on January 1, 2011.

Former CIS always involved into its activity young specialists, students and post-graduate students which later became recognized experts. By now all possible constraints have been removed and more opportunities have emerged. Scholars and researchers are implementing CMIS educational projects, primarily international ones. At the same time all successful research projects of CIS are continued.
