Rotary Club "Vladivostok Central"
January 14, 2005
As Host Partner Club President, I wish to confirm that Vladivostok
Central Rotary Club endorses the program of English development
being conducted by the Centre of Multicultural Exchange,
attached to the Maritime State University. For communication
in the world as it is today, we believe that the ability
to use the English language is of great importance, both
within the Centre, as well as to the wider community, especially
for trade and cultural contact.
We have known the Director of the Centre, Elena Sadovskaya,
for a long period of time. Formerly as the Director of Magic
Land English Immersion Camps, she was actively involved
in Rotary International Youth Development programs, RYLA
and MUNA being among them. Also, Elena attended the 2003
Rotary International Annual Conference in Brisbane .
The Centre of Multicultural Exchange was opened in January
2004, with Elena Sadovskaya as its Director. We believe
it was Elena's cross-cultural experience with Rotary in
Australia that assisted in her move to the Maritime State
University. She promoted the idea of developing face to
face contact between people, to break stereotypes and to
develop international understanding and goodwill. In this
regard we could suggest no better place to start, as the
Maritime State University has been traditionally the cradle
of the most prominent people of Vladivostok, with its graduates
known all over Russia.
We consider this particular Rotary Volunteer program, which
will be conducted by Pat and Peter Edwards between 14 June
to 12 July 2005, with assistance from the Centre of Multicultural
Exchange, to be extremely beneficial for members of the
Vladivostok community. The ability to use the English language
gives an opportunity for training, as international expertise
and programs can then be used. Also, it helps to build links
for trade and international goodwill. The benefit to the
community as a whole will result in improved business expertise
and development.
As part of this direct volunteer service, English teaching,
strategic skills and project planning for the next step
of the existing youth program will be valuable input, which
the Rl Volunteers will be able to add to Russian society.
These are reasons why our Club believes in cooperation with
the Centre of Multicultural Exchange on an ongoing basis
and endorses this particular Rl Volunteer program planned
from 14 June to 12 July 2005.
