He graduated from our University in 2001 and became a post-graduate student at the Physics Department, specializing in radio physics. He published 14 papers and won a lot of diplomas and awards .   December 17, 2003V.I.Sedykh’s press conference Following “Vostok Media” information on non-payment of DA to participants of the round-the-world voyage aboard the Nadezhda, V.I.Sedykh, MSU Rector, held a press conference where he explained the situation be alterations made in the Russian currency legislation which forbid payment of foreign currency instead of DA. He offered the Nadezhda people two ways out and asked them to make a decision which way they wanted the MSU to follow. He regretted the inconveniences they were experiencing as result of the alteration in the currency legislation.
  December 15, 2003Rectors’ councilOn 11 December a meeting of the Council of Rectors of the Far Eastern Higher Education Establishments was held in Khabarovsk. V.I.Sedykh, Rector of the Maritime State University also took part in it.
Press Service of the Maritime State University | more |   December 12, 2003Children are given special attention On 11 December students of the Psychological Faculty, the Maritime State University met with children from the Primorski Regional Socio-Rehabilitation Centre. The children brought hand-made articles: embroidery, drawings, toys and cookies. The students and teachers bought the children’s works at a charitable fair. The proceeds will be used to buy New Year’s presents for the children.
After the fair a tea party was held which ended with interesting games.

It is of principal importance for the observers from the Yachting Federation. The Nadezhda entered the Pacific Ocean in full compliance with the schedule.

Yesterday, on 27 November classical music sounded at the University again. The cadets, students and teachers gathered in the hall to listen to overtures to operas “Ruslan and Lyumila” by M.Glinka and “Traviata” by J.Verdi, “Simple Symphony” by B.Britten, extracts from J.Bizet’s operas and G.Sviridov’s “Snowstorm”.
  November 25, 2003Proiblems of safe shipping On 25 November a Seminar “Matters of Carrying out Provisions of Chapter XI-2 of the SOLAS Convention and the International Code on Safety of Ships and Port Facilities in the Far East” was held in the Maritime State University. Growth of terrorism in the world is a present-day fact, this is why it is necessary to work out preventive measures to protect human lives, which is required by the international documents mentioned in the Seminar name. Its objective is to identify practical ways of implementing the provisions of those documents.
  November 25, 2003Governor’s grant given to the best onesOn 25 November students and post-graduate students received Primorski Governor’s grants for 2003-2004 academic year. The Maritime State University named after admiral G.I.Nevelskoy was represented by Mikhail Uvarov, a fifth-year cadet of the Marine Engineering Department and three young teachers, working at their theses: Elvira Zelenina, Victor Sedov and Roman Drozdov.

The Youth Festival promotes development of science in the Maritime Territory. Fifty books were published during those years. The Program is non-profitable, designed to help the authors who have no finances to publish their works.
On 14 November, 2003 a literary-musical party was held in the Pushkin Theatre, devoted to the fifth-year anniversary of the Program.

The team comprised Vladislav and Galina Subbotins, Maxim Gayek and Anton Kislov. The 12-year-old schoolboy from Vladivostok Anton Kislov competing in the youths’ category set a new world record. His cord model of A-3 class developed an unbelievable speed of 212 km per hour.   August 7, 2003200 YEARS LATEROn August 7,2003 200 passed since the first round-the-world voyage was made by the sailing sloops ’Nadezhda’ and ’Neva’ whose commanders were Ivan Kruzenshtern and Fyodor Lisyansky. The voyage was completed in August 1806. Kronstadt was the initial and final point of their route. On January 25, 2003 the training sailcraft owned by the Admiral Nevelskoy MSU with the navigating cadets on board set out for her round-the-world expedition following the ’Nadezhda’ and ’Neva’ route. Having passed part of her route the modern ’Nadezhda’ anchored in St.Petersburg, where the crew and cadets were relieved. It was organized by the Nakhodka Oceanic Club. Fifteen yachts from Vladivostok and Nakhodka took part in the race. The main prize - the Nakhodka Mayor’s Cup - was won by the yacht ’Pulsar’ owned by Admiral Nevelskoy Maritime State University and her master Yuri Sayapin, the second place was taken by the ’Commodore Bering’ yacht (sailing master Vladimir Gamanov), also owned by the MSU, the ’Captain Panayev’ from Nakhodka was the third one.   July 28, 2003Sailing sport in the Maritime universityRussian sailing sport is over two centuries. It originated in St.Petersburg and Odessa and in late 90-s of the 19th century came to Vladivostok. The MSU Yacht Club is well-known far beyond the boundaries of the Maritime Territory. Sailing sportin the Maritime University is over 30. Our yachts the ’Rodina’, ’Rossiya’, ’Chukotka’, ’Commodore Bering’, ’Admiral Nevelskoy’, ’ Pulsar’, ’DVVIMU-1’ and ’DVVIMU-2’ and others covered hundreds of thousands of miles and took part in scores of tall ship races.

Since 1999 it is called the Children’s and Youth’s Sports School ’Seafarer’ functioning all the year round. The main purpose of its activity was to let schoolchildren learn about seamanship, acquire its elements and habits of aquatic sports. The school is in fact the first step in continuous maritime education at the University.

The second-year engineer cadets arrived by air to St.Petersburg, where the “Nadezhda” is lying’, while Vladivostok met 90 third-year navigating cadets. The latter took part in the first stage of the voyage (Vladivostok - St.Petersburg). They were away from home during five months. They covered 15190 miles, three oceans and called at six foreign ports.

It is the first visit by the esteemed Sensei to Russia. Mr. Hirai Sumiteru demonstrated and commented on general movements characteristic of his style, answered questions, told about the background of his school, its peculiarities and specifics differing it from other schools and also his plans for the future.
