The Nadezhda set out for her round-the-world voyage with 90 3rd-year navigating cadets of the Maritime State University named after Admiral G.I.Nevelskoy on board.

On 25 October the initiation into cadets of the Maritime State University named after admiral G.I.Nevelskoy was conducted. Cadets are traditionally admitted only to marine faculties (Marine Engineering and Navigation ones).

The Nadezhda: from Canaries to Rio de Janeiro

Making her round-the-world voyage the training sailcraft “Nadezhda” called at Santa Kruz de Tenerife, the Canary Islands. She stayed there from October 16-21, 2003 as it had been scheduled.

On 17 October, 2003 a collection “Happy Birthday, Morning!” was presented. The collection became the first one in a series “New Names” of the Popular Publishing Program being carried out by the Maritime State University during some years and supported by the Primorski Culture Department and Primorski Culture Fund.

We are passing from the English Channel to the Canaries practically on the same dates as the Kruzenshtern Expedition, the only difference is that we arrive on 16 October, not on the 21st, as it was 200 years ago.

Open education

Studies for an open form of education started in the Open Maritime University. On October 11, 35 students got their examination books and student’s books. The Executive Secretary of the MSU Admission Commission A.D.Yuzov handed them. It is the first enrollment in our University.

On October 9, 2003 the first official telecommunication sitting took place, which connected the “Nadezhda” with Moscow, to be more exact the Chief Marine Rescue Coordination Centre (CMCC), where RF Transport Minister S.O.Frank arrived.

Live music

A recently opened musical subscription “The Pacific Symphony Orchestra Invites” implied meetings with those who love music in the concert halls of Vladivostok. But yesterday, on October 2 the best-known musical collective of our city came to the Maritime State University named after Admiral G.I.Nevelskoy in full to play for the cadets, students and teachers. In the Assembly Hall, where, according to the performers, acoustics is excellent, classical music sounded.

Research and practical conference

On October 1 an International Research and practical Conference “Problems of Transport of the Far East” opened in the Maritime State University named after Admiral G.I.Nevelskoy. The Conference has become a tradition, it is held every second year. The current event is the fifth one. It will last for two days.
