News for july, 2003 July 30, 2003Maritime university yacht brought cup from NakhodkaDuring the last weekend a traditional sailing regatta was held in Nakhodka. It was organized by the Nakhodka Oceanic Club. Fifteen yachts from Vladivostok and Nakhodka took part in the race. The main prize - the Nakhodka Mayor’s Cup - was won by the yacht ’Pulsar’ owned by Admiral Nevelskoy Maritime State University and her master Yuri Sayapin, the second place was taken by the ’Commodore Bering’ yacht (sailing master Vladimir Gamanov), also owned by the MSU, the ’Captain Panayev’ from Nakhodka was the third one.   July 28, 2003Sailing sport in the Maritime universityRussian sailing sport is over two centuries. It originated in St.Petersburg and Odessa and in late 90-s of the 19th century came to Vladivostok. The MSU Yacht Club is well-known far beyond the boundaries of the Maritime Territory. Sailing sportin the Maritime University is over 30. Our yachts the ’Rodina’, ’Rossiya’, ’Chukotka’, ’Commodore Bering’, ’Admiral Nevelskoy’, ’ Pulsar’, ’DVVIMU-1’ and ’DVVIMU-2’ and others covered hundreds of thousands of miles and took part in scores of tall ship races.

The main prize - the challenge cup - is made to design of the world-known seafarer, the then ’Chukotka’ yacht crew member Fyodor Konyukhov. | more |   July 21, 2003Zhukov’s parting with young seafarers’ school For many years the Young Seafarers’ School has been functioning with the Admiral Nevelskoy MSU. Since 1999 it is called the Children’s and Youth’s Sports School ’Seafarer’ functioning all the year round. The main purpose of its activity was to let schoolchildren learn about seamanship, acquire its elements and habits of aquatic sports. The school is in fact the first step in continuous maritime education at the University.

About 15 teams from all parts of Russia gathered there. Ship modelists from Vladivostok also took part in the Championship.
| more |   July 11, 2003Psychology faculty of the Maritime university is 10 On July 11 the Humanities Institute of the Maritime State University is having a holiday. The Faculty of Psychology is 10 years old. Opened in 1993, the Faculty of Psychology became the second one in Primorski higher education institutions after the FENU. The name of its first dean Eduard I. Kirshbaum was well known in Vladivostok.

  July 7, 2003Russia’s navy day On July 6, the Navy Day, the MSU cadets took part in the wreath-laying to the Monument to Merchant Seamen.
| more |   July 3, 2003Ready to continue the round-the-world voyage A new voyage instructor Yevgeny Gurov informs that the second-year engineering cadets arrived on board the sailing ship “Nadezhda” in St.Petersburg. As it was preplanned, they replaced the third-year navigating cadets.
| more |   July 2, 2003Cadets’ swap aboard the “Nadezhda” The cadets’ swap took place on board the sailing ship “Nadezhda” making her round-the-world voyage. The second-year engineer cadets arrived by air to St.Petersburg, where the “Nadezhda” is lying’, while Vladivostok met 90 third-year navigating cadets. The latter took part in the first stage of the voyage (Vladivostok - St.Petersburg). They were away from home during five months. They covered 15190 miles, three oceans and called at six foreign ports.
