Meetings with rector

In the last days of 2004 V.I.Sedykh, the MSU Rector, held a few final meetings. At his meeting with members of the Cadets’ and Students’ Councils, the Rector told about the way the MSU will be financed including financing educational work, about setting up a maritime university complex centered in Vladivostok (on the basis of the MSU) with its branches in Nakhodka, Khabarovsk, Blagoveshchensk and Sakhalin.

Exchange of experience

The Second Far Eastern Research Conference on Aikido was held in the Maritime University. The participants were Akido Federations of Primorski Krai, Khabarovsk and Komsomolsk-on-Amur. The objective of the Conference was exchange of experience. Such conferences are to be held annually.

On Tuesday, 28 December at 14.00 hours in Room # 0311 the 22nd lesson of the Seminar will be held. The theme of the lesson is “Basic Forces: Electromagnetic Interactions”. MSU sportsmen are world champions

The world championship in “Dragon” class boat rowing is over in Shanghai (China). About 3000 sportsmen from 30 countries took part in the event. Russia was represented mainly by Primorski sportsmen, among them there were six cadets and students of the Maritime State University. The Russian team won two gold, one silver and two bronze medals.

Victory brought from China

On 30-31 September International Students’ Competition in "Dragon" class boat rowing. University teams came from Italy, Spain, America, Canada, Australia, Korea, Thailand, Macao and China (15 teams!). Russia was represented by 22 Primorsky students, two of them from the MSU.

The took the sixth place in the "open" class and the first place in the "mixed" class.

Analytical letter

On results of opinion poll held in Vladivostok on 27.09.2004

On 27 September, 2004 sociologists of the MSU Institute of Socio-Political Problems of Management held an opinion poll among Vladivostok residents in order to learn the latter’s attitude towards some issues of housing and communal service. Its results show that the population does not know the structure of the communal tariff.

Veterans’ council resuming its work

A Veterans’ Council has been set up in the MSU. It unites participants of hostile actions and labor veterans who worked in the MSU during 25-30 years.

At its first meeting Amir Glimovich Khamatov was elected head of the Veterans’ Council. He is WW2 veteran who is still working with the University.

Russian championship in "Konrad 25" class goes on

Russian Championship in Yachting opened in Vladivostok on September 3 goes on. Three races are over, two more are ahead. Sportsmen from Moscow, St.Petersburg, Irkutsk, Yekaterinburg, Khabarovsk, Taganrog, Sochi, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Nakhodka and Vladivostok are taking part in the Championship.In all there are 39 participating crews. According to the results of the first three races, "Rock’n’Roll", "Illusion" and "Condor" (MSU) are the first three. The final results will be made known after two more races, on September 10 and 12.

School year started successfully in the Center of Pre-University Training and Patriotic Education, Maritime State University in village Knevichi. Now 100 schoolchildren are studying there mainly from socially difficult families. The children are fully provided.

So far financing is less that it was expected. MSU Rector V.I.Sedykh is planning to start vocational training of the teenagers.

Russia’s championship in yachting

Russia’s championship in "Konrad 25"class yachting is being held in Vladivostok for the third day. This competition has the status of the country’s championship for the second year. Previously, since 1986 it was held within the framework of the All-Russian Regatta "Peter the Great Bay Cup". The Maritime State University entered the first three prize-winners five times and twice the "Condor" yacht crew headed by the well-known yachtsman, MSU teacher Garik Stepanyan became a winner of this hard and prestigious race.

Born in Tygda

From 22 to 25 August a group of schoolchildren from Tygda (Amur Region) came to Vladivostok on the invitation of Rector of the Maritime State University V.I.Sedykh who comes from that village and graduated from the same school they are studying at.

They were 15 (13 boys and two girls) accompanied by two teachers. They are in 9-11 forms. They were in a big city for the first time and never saw the sea before.

Results of the admiral Nevelskoy cup regatta

The 23rd traditional Nevelskoy Cup Regatta was successful for the Maritime University yachtsmen. Well-known MSU skippers Vladimir Gamaniv, Garik stepanyan, Alexey Mikhailov, Yuri Sayapin and other sportsmen confirmed their high class once again: the Cup made according to Fyodor Konyukhov’s design in 1981 was handed to the team of the Maritime State University.

Applicants of the Maritime state university

On 25 June the MSU Admission Commission started its activities by accepting 96 applications. Today the MSU offers 32 specialities and specializations, three of the are absolutely new ones: “Radiophysics and Electronics”, “Information Security of TV Communication Systems” and “Physical Culture and Sports”.

688 students will be funded by the Government. The documents will be accepted till 15 July. Entrance examinations will start on the 16 July.

On 12 May at 11 hours the training ship “Kayo Maru” owned by the Higher Marine School of the prefecture Niigata will moor at the Marine Terminal of Vladivostok. The Japanese cadets will be guests of the Maritime State University named after G.I.Nevelskoy. Friendship between the Japanese and Russian cadets lasts for 10 years. For this decade hundreds of future Japanese seamen have visited the port of Vladivostok and learned about the Russian system of marine education.

The cadets and teachers are planning to visit one of the marine colleges of the Chinese port.

The “Nadezhda” is to sail from Hong Kong on the morning of 29 February. She is to arrive in Shanghai on 8 March where she will stay for three days.

It is not difficult to explain why the initial diagram of our route contains inexact calculations of distances between the ports and time of stays there. In the course of our voyage some ports of call were changed and the length of the route changed correspondingly.

We present our apologies to the “Nadezhda” shipmaster, crew and our site visitors for inexact data of the way passed.

The mistake was caused by technical reasons. We calculated miles according to the radiograms from the Controller’s Office and compared them with the Approved Table of Distances between Ports. At present all the data have been corrected and brought into accord with the information received from the “Nadezhda” Shipmaster V.Vasilenko.

Turn around the earth is completed!

On February 18, 2004 at 17 hours 47 minutes the “Nadezhda” passed the longitude of Vladivostok, thus having made a complete turn around the globe. At that time the ship was in the Philippine Sea, with all sails set.

Everything goes on according to the schedule, without any incidents.

Russia in Asia-Pacific Region

On 17 February an International Research-cum-Practical Conference “The Russian Far East and Integration Processes in Pacific Rim: Economic, Social, Political and Humanitarian Problems” took place in the Institute of Eastern Asia of the Maritime State University named after admiral G.I.Nevelskoy. Teachers and leaders of the Institute of Eastern Asia, MSU Institute of Management, scholars of the Institute of History Archaeology and Ethnography of Far East Peoples, FEB RAS and post-graduates of the Vladivostok State University of Economics and Services took part in discussions of those issues.

“Nadezhda” left Solomon islands

On the night of February 5 the sailing ship “Nadezhda” left the Solomon Islands. She stayed in the port Honiara for 3 days. Members of the local government visited the ship. The cadets and crew members took an opportunity to see exotic sights of the country.

“Nadezhda” on Solomon islands

During WW2 the Solomon Islands were a strategically important part of the Pacific. Bloody battles of the US and UK Navies with the Japanese were fought there. In 1942-43 about 58,000 US paratroopers landed there. About 50 shot down aircraft are lying under water around the islands.

Anniversary of the round-the-world voyage

January 25, 2003. On that clear winter day the training sailcraft “Nadezhda” owned by the Maritime State University named after admiral G.I.Nevelskoy sailed off for a long, round-the-world voyage. The project was dedicated to the bicentenary of the first round-the-world voyage of Russian sailors commanded by I.Kruzenshtern and Yu.Lisyansky on board the sloops “Nadezhda” and “Neva”.

Meeting of cadets belonging to differenr generations

Cadets of different generations held a traditional meting in the Arsenyev Museum. There were young members of naval patriotic clubs and Great Patriotic War veterans present. The latter recollected their legendary voyages, recited their poems and sang songs about the sea, friendship and loyalty.
