A.Borisenko, Director, Research and Technical Information Centre   February 25, 2004The “Nadezhda” in Hong KongThe training sailcraft “Nadezhda” owned by the MSU named after admiral G.I.Nevelskoy continues her round-the-world voyage in the Pacific. At present the sailing ship is staying in the port of Hong Kong where she arrived yesterday, on the 24 February.
The cadets and teachers are planning to visit one of the marine colleges of the Chinese port.
The “Nadezhda” is to sail from Hong Kong on the morning of 29 February. She is to arrive in Shanghai on 8 March where she will stay for three days.

True, how can one be deprived of whatever did happen. It is not difficult to explain why the initial diagram of our route contains inexact calculations of distances between the ports and time of stays there. In the course of our voyage some ports of call were changed and the length of the route changed correspondingly.

We calculated miles according to the radiograms from the Controller’s Office and compared them with the Approved Table of Distances between Ports. At present all the data have been corrected and brought into accord with the information received from the “Nadezhda” Shipmaster V.Vasilenko.

The name of the world first female sea-going captain is known to everybody in our city.
Anna Ivanovna was a teacher of the Maritime University for many years. On 26 February wreaths will be laid to the grave of the legendary captain.

On February 18, 2004 at 17 hours 47 minutes the “Nadezhda” passed the longitude of Vladivostok, thus having made a complete turn around the globe. At that time the ship was in the Philippine Sea, with all sails set.
Everything goes on according to the schedule, without any incidents.
Ivan Yegorchev, the “Nadezhda”   February 18, 2004Russia in Asia-Pacific Region On 17 February an International Research-cum-Practical Conference “The Russian Far East and Integration Processes in Pacific Rim: Economic, Social, Political and Humanitarian Problems” took place in the Institute of Eastern Asia of the Maritime State University named after admiral G.I.Nevelskoy. Teachers and leaders of the Institute of Eastern Asia, MSU Institute of Management, scholars of the Institute of History Archaeology and Ethnography of Far East Peoples, FEB RAS and post-graduates of the Vladivostok State University of Economics and Services took part in discussions of those issues.

She stayed in the port Honiara for 3 days. Members of the local government visited the ship. The cadets and crew members took an opportunity to see exotic sights of the country.

Bloody battles of the US and UK Navies with the Japanese were fought there. In 1942-43 about 58,000 US paratroopers landed there. About 50 shot down aircraft are lying under water around the islands.
