On 7 December the Maritime State University marked the 192nd birthday of Gennady Ivanovich Nevelskoy. Since 1965 the MSU has been bearing the name of that outstanding Russian seafarer.

Governor’s reception

On 5 December Primorsky Region Governor S.M.Darkin received his grant-aided students at the premises of the Primorsky Regional Administration. The Governor’s grant is awarded twice a year. During this term 555 persons were awarded with it, 40 of them are the MSU students and cadets.

From 30 November to 1 December a Youth Research and Practical Conference “Maritime Historical Readings” was held at the MSU. The subject of the Conference was inspired by the 115th anniversary of marine education in the Far East and the 125th anniversary of the Far Eastern Shipping Company.

Serious conversation in the lyceum classes

Huge money made by drug traffickers is one of the reasons of everlasting narcomania that ruins people’s, especially teenagers’, lives. What do the teenagers think about their destiny? Will they have enough strength, intellect and understanding to protect themselves? Those questions were discussed at a meeting of the Lyceum classes students held within the framework of the All-Russian Action devoted to the World Day of Struggle Against Drug Abuse.

A delegation from Taiwan

On 25 November, 2005 a delegation of the Taiwan State Oceanic University visited the Maritime State University named after G.I.Nevelskoy.

In the course of the meeting of the delegation with the MSU Rector V.I.Sedykh, a Memorandum of Mutual Understanding between the two Universities was signed, it is aimed at working out a program of exchange and cooperation in the spheres of mutual interest.

The guests also visited the Institute of Sea Protection, the MSU Simulators Center and the MSU Museum.

Presentation of the MSU students, cadets councils and youth center

On 6 December, 2005 (Tuesday) at 16.30 presentation of the MSU Cadets, Students Councils and Youth Centers will take place in the Assembly Hall. On that day at 17.00 flowers were laid to the monuments of those who made a major contribution to development of marine education in the Far East. At the Railway Station Post Office envelopes issued in honor of the 115th anniversary of marine education in the Far East were stamped.

Exhibition “New Horizons of Maritime Education“

The Exhibition “New Horizons of Maritime Education“ was an event to be remembered, its inauguration was attended by representatives of consulates accredited in Primorsky Krai and Vladivostok Town Hall. Its stands were arranged as a huge sailing ship opening new horizons and perspectives for future marine education.

On November 15 there were presentation and exhibition of the MSU publications devoted to the 115th anniversary of marine education. They are a collection of works by the MSU Literary Studio “Sails-2” members, a photo album “The Nadezhda opens the world” about the MSU sailing ship “Nadezhda”round-the-world voyage in 2003-2004 and a reference book by Dr. V.F.Veryovkin “FEHEMC – FESMA – MSU Professors”.

Holiday again!

There was another cultural event at the Institute of Eastern Asia: on November 3 they celebrated the Day of Japanese Culture. It is “bunka-no-ho” – the Day of Culture in Japan on November 3. The festive program included ikebana class conducted by 3rd-year students guided by Ms. Nakadzima Kadzuko, the IEA teacher. Then there was a quiz prepared by 2nd-year students. N.N.Kuzmenko, the IEA Director presented a collection of Japanese crockery. At the final part of the festival a tasting of Japanese dishes was carried out.

Victory of would-be social teachers

The results of the All-Russian Students’ Olympiad in "Social work" speciality showed that the team of our girls won the first place. They are the best students of the Psychology Faculty.

The Olympiad for Primorsky students was held at the Vladivostok State University of Economics and Services. The jury included leading specialists in the sphere of social work. Last year our team won the third place.

Defence of a doctor’s thesis took place in the MGU

On 3 November A.A.Lugovets, our graduate of 1971 defended his doctor’s thesis here.

Alexander Anatolyevich made his career from the third officer to the first deputy RF transport minister. In 2000 he became director general of the FESCO. He did research starting from 1985. He worked at his thesis from 1992.

New names are included in the "Golden fund"

On the eve of the 115th anniversary of marine education in the Far East the Maritime University entered new names in the "Golden Fund" Book. The "Golden Fund" was instituted on 1 November, 2000. Teachers, graduates, cadets and students of our University whose achievements gave them this right are inserted in the Book.

During 5 years the "Golden Fund" sign was given to 44 persons. Five more were awarded on the eve of the jubilee: Sergei Darkin, Primorsky Governor, Yevgeny Ambrosov, FESCO DG. Vladislav Subbotin, the MSU professor, 10 times world champion in ship modeling, Mikhil Kargin, lecturer and trainer and Alexei Porokhin, a navigation cadet.

IREX exchange program

For many students of Russian Universities education in the US is becoming a reality. Specially for such exchanges training programs are being made up that enable Russian schoolchildren and students to achieve a high level of English. Every year the International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) arranges a contest among University students and a contest for those having higher education whose winners receive grants. The IREX is a leading non-commercial agency in the United States of America that is developing and carrying out programs in the sphere of higher education both in the USA and Europe, the countries of the formers Soviet Union, in the Middle East and Asia.

Training for a japanese company

The Maritime State University is becoming an international center of training specialists for merchant marine of not only Russia, but also other countries. Of late the MOL, the shipping company from Japan signed an agreement with the MSU on training seafarers to work aboard its ships. The MOL is one of the leading companies engaged in sea transportation; it is the world biggest holding owning 650 ships of different type and purpose. The Company is planning to increase the number of its ships to 1,000 in the near future. Their crews need highly qualified officers. The MOL leadership is aware of a high level of officers’ training at the Maritime State University - its graduates selected by the Russian Company FES-Contract are working on board Japanese ships.

Initiation at the MSU marine college. 2005

On the previous day a cyclone raged over the town. On the Initiation Day the weather was not welcoming either. It kind of warned would-be seamen: their trade will require courage, self-control, acquired toughness and good health. Despite the low temperature in the Assembly Hall, the feeling of solemnity did not leave those present. The Hall was full of students, their parents, guests and teachers. The University banner was brought in to the sounds of the Maritime University hymn. After a solemn oath a command was given, "Put on jacks, a symbol of marine glory!"

The MSU rowers’ victories

The MSU rowers in "Dragon" boats won one victory after another till the end of the season. On 23-25 September in Settlement Lozovy at the Primorsky Regional Championship in 500-meters distance the team of the Maritime State University occupied the second place.

The far eastern "Printing house"

On 19 October the Far Eastern Book Exhibition-cum-Fair "Printing House - 2005" opened at the Primorye-EXPO building. The participants were greeted by G.P.Turmov, Deputy of the Primorsky Regional Legislature. Despite the fact that the Far Eastern territories are separated by great distances, traditionally, representatives of the Magadan, Kamchatka, Sakhalin, Khabarovsk Regions and the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) gather in Vladivostok. Primorsky Krai, as usual, is represented by Vladivostok, Ussuriysk and Nakhodka.

International conference

Recently an international conference "Remote Education and Internet" was held at the FENU. It was organized by the Association of Pacific Region Universities (APRU). The working language of the Conference is English only. The FENU Rector V.I.Kurilov became a chairman of the Organizing Committee, the First Vice-Rector B.L.Reznik and APRU Project Director Zita Venzel (South University, California) were co-chairpersons.

A subbotnik was held at the Maritime State University. Every house should be kept clean. The MSU is a big institution, therefore, the territory to be cleaned by cadets, students and the University staff is big too. Every department was allotted a certain plot.

Sports and athletics meeting "First-year student-2005" is in full swing

The Sports and Athletics Meeting "Fist-Year-2005" that started at the MSU on 3 October is in full swing. As usual, representative teams comprising full-time freshmen of all the Institutes and Faculties of our University were admitted to the competitions. This year the competitions are held in eight kinds of sports: basketball, table tennis, swimming, track and field, chess, soccer, volleyball and bullet shooting.

Victory in kick-boxing

The "Olympiyets" Sports Complex hosted an Open Championship of the city in kick-boxing. The Maritime University was represented by two cadets: Stanislav Grabchuk, Company 25, Marine Engineering Faculty and Maxim Otto, Marine College. They met in the final fight for those weighing up to 63.5 kg. Stanislav Grabchuk won a very intensive fight and took the first place.

Marine ecology - 2005

On 5 - 7 October the Maritime State University hosted the 3rd International Research and Practical Conference "Marine Ecology - 2005" and the International Specialized Exhibition "Equipment and Technologies of Responding to Emergency Oil Spills, Fire Fighting Means for Objects". As you can understand, such large-scale events are devoted to problems and ways of protecting the sea and coastline environment from technology-caused accidents. It is quite logical that Vladivostok and in particular the MSU Institute of Sea Protection became their venue. Serious research on contingency organization in the Far Eastern seas.

Meeting the 115th anniversary of marine education in the russian far east

Approaching of the important date coincided with completion of the first issue of a humanitarian and social-scientific series "Bulletin of the Maritime State University named after Admiral G.I.Nevelskoy". It will be published on the days of the jubilee. Once again the Maritime State University shows an indissoluble connection of maritime higher education and fundamental studies whose unity serves as a proof of fruitful realization of a university mission in modern conditions. Last as long as possible, the moment!

Some days ago within the framework of the Vladivostok Art Festival "Ikebana-2005" timed to the 150th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Russia and Japan, an exhibition was held and an origami workshop was held in the MSU Institute of Eastern Asia. Its theme sounded like the Festival motto: "The way of a flower is a new birth in master’s hands". The workshop was conducted by IEA teacher and volunteer from Toyama prefecture Ms.Makadzima Kadzuko and origami teacher of the MSU School-Studio M.I.Semyonova.

Marine ecology-2005. International research and practical conference and exhibition

On 5-7 October the 3rd International Research and Practical Conference "Marine Ecology - 2005" and International Specialized Exhibition "Equipment and Technologies of Combating Emergency Oil Discharges, Means of Fighting Fires at Objects". Such major events are devoted to problems and ways of protecting the sea and littoral environment from technology-caused accidents. It is only too logical that our town and the MSU Institute of Sea Protection became its venue: a research on ways of containing aftermath of pollution of the Far Eastern seas is being done here.

Ways of memory

Vladivostok young people and veterans devoted a relay-race "Along the Borderline" to the 60th anniversary of the Second World War. Its organizers are the City Veterans’ Council and the Department of Culture and Youth Policy of the City Hall. A delegation of the MSU students together with war veterans visited 9 frontier posts and garrisons during 5 days.

Days of Computer Knowledge were organized in the MSU for the first time. Its last stage was a lottery arranged specially for students and cadets. Its special prize was PC based on Intel Pentium 4 processor with NT technology.

Australians are participants of the game

To conduct the International Business Game MUNA (Model of the United Nations) a team of 20 persons arrived from Australia. The Game will take place on 21-22 September in the Conference Hall of the University. The Game follows the lines of the UN sittings. Every team is a delegation of this or that country discussing urgent problems like disappearing animal species, world terrorism etc. The task of the Game is to try to resolve pressing issues without infringement of interests of one’s country and respecting the position of neighbors.

On 13 September the 5th Asian-Pacific Conference on Fundamental Problems of Optic and Microelectronics APCOM 2005 opened in the Conference Hall of the FEB RAS Presidium on 13 September. The first stage passed - selection of participants, practice in English: seeing films in English and classes with Australian teachers. Russian sailing championship is over

The most important sailing competition of this year - "Peter the Great Bay Cup" - Russian Championship in class Konrad-25P is over. The yacht "Parus" of the Maritime State University was the leader from start and finish in the two last stages (races No.4 and 5) (skipper Alexei Mikhailov). One more MSU yacht "Impuls" (skipper Konstantin Litvintsev) was the second in the 5th race. Four MSU yachts occupied the 5th-8th places.

A few months ago RF Defense Ministry declared about expediency of reducing military training departments at higher education institutions that train reserve officers. After that young people and their parents were wondering what Universities will remain untouched. Russian championship in sailing continued

Peter the Great Bay Cup - Russian Championship in class Konrad-25P is going on. 30 crews of yachts from Moscow, St.Petersburg, Kazan, Perm, Yekaterinburg, Zhelezniigirsk, Komsomolsk-on-Amur and Khabarovsk. Primorye is represented by yacht clubs from Vladivostok ("Seven Feet", TURNIF and the MSU), Slavyanka, Nakhodka, Bolshoy Kamen and Podyapolsk. Five MSU yachts are taking part in the Championship. 18 more yachts of different classes are participants of the regatta Peter the Great Bay Cup, six of them belong to the MSU yacht club.

Russia’s championship in yachting

On 2 September Inauguration of the Russian Yachting Championship in "Konrad-25P class took place in Vladivostok. Primorsky Governor Sergei Darkin heads the Organizing Committee of this prestigious competition, the other members being Alexander Kotenkov, President’s Rep in the Federation Council and V.I.Sedykh, Rector, Maritime State University. There are the MSU representatives in the Championship Executive Committee - Y.L.Sayapin, V.V.Klyuyev, G.Y.Stepanyan and A.M.Mikhailov.

It was recently, it was long ago

Every time one attends meetings of the MSU alumni, one cannot but ask a question: what was there in their cadets’ lives that having parted 20, 30 or 40 years ago they maintain contacts with each other? This question arose at a meeting of graduates-1975 of the Engineering Faculty. 30 years have passed since cadets of Company 10 sailed to a voyage named "grown-up life".

Photo report: Admiral Nevelskoy Cup Regatta

The cruising race "Admiral Nevelskoy Cup" were held during three days - from 5 to 7 August. The Maritime State University organized it for the 24th time. 48 yachts from clubs of Vladivostok, Nakhodka and Khabarovsk took pat in the prestigious race this year. 14 of them represented the MSU. The race distance is from Fyodorov Bay, Vladivostok up to Minonosok Bay in Slavyansky Bay.

Admiral Nevelskoy Cup Regatta

On 5 August the cruising race "Admiral Nevelskoy Cup" will start on the water area of the Amyrsky Bay. For the 24th year in succession it is held by the Maritime State University with support of the Primorsky Regional Yachting Federation. A delegation from Niigata

A delegation from Niigata Prefecture, Japan visited the Maritime University. It was headed by Executive Director of NSG College Group Mr.Kawasaki. The purpose of the visit was to make proposals on cooperation in the sphere of training. 22 colleges are functioning at the Prefecture, students are being trained in 150 specialities and the doors of Japanese training institutions can also be opened for students of the Maritime State University.

An issue of the Russian literary magazine "Far East" published in July-August 2005 carries an article by Iya Permyakova "There won’t be any time to spare…" about creative work of Vyacheslav Protasov, a poet of the MSU Literary Studio "Sails". Graduates at the marine college

A traditional and at the same time exciting ceremony took place at the Marine College of the Maritime State University - handing graduation certificates to the graduates of the Navigation and Engineering Departments. The leadership of the Marine College is satisfied with these graduates. Two cadets (Roman Kulik and Mikhail Pyshny) were rewarded with honors degrees, nine passed their state examinations excellently. All of them will be remembered well.

Vladexpo-2005

When Vladivostok was celebrating its 145th anniversary, an International Exhibition-cum-Fair "Vladexpo-2005" was held. 85 businesses, companies and firms from various Russian regions and from abroad showed their products there. The MSU also took part in the Exhibition demonstrating there products of research and educational activities. Numerous advertising leaflets told visitors about research developments in the sphere of ecology, power engineering and ship repairing.

Vladivostok scholarships to the best ones

On June 27, Youth Day Vladivostok Mayor Vladimir Nikolayev handed city scholarships to the best students. Among them there were the MSU 5th-year navigation cadet Anton Taranchenko, the 4th-year student Irine Voronyuk and the 3rd-year student Yulia Palkina. All of them are learning with honors, taking part in public life and are respected by their colleagues and teachers.

20 years ago 49 FEHEMC cadets of Company 70 graduated from the Faculty of Marine Transport Management. They met with their teachers and remembered their cadetship. Our rowers have got three cups

Traditional competition in Dragon class boat rowing for the Primorsky Governor Cup took place in Vladivostok. About 60 teams from Vladivostok, Partizansk and Andreyevka took part in it. The MSU team participated in three classes of boats: "open" (the most prestigious) class for 19-40 year-old men, combined students’ teams and mixed class (six men and four girls).

On 25-26 June the Second International Competition took place in the MSU Institute of Eastern Asia. Two teams participated: a combined Japanese and Korean team (students from Tokyo, Kyoto and Seoul, among them President of the GO Students’ Organization, Tokyo University student Takeda Tomoko) and a Russian team ( students and office workers from Vladivostok and Khabarovsk).

"Visiting battlefields of the Great Patriotic War" - this is a name of a new exhibition opened in the MSU Museum. It demonstrates photos of important pages of our Maritime University. The youth center is one year old

In the summer of 2004 by order of the MSU Rector, the Service of Socio-Psychological Work was transformed into the Department of Educational Work, the Youth Center being part of it. E.G.Zelenina headed the Department and N.B.Frank was appointed the YC leader. Exactly one year passed. On June 15 the YC gathered its performers, assistants and guests at the party to mark the birthday together and sum up the first results.

Pull yourself up!

Another sportive event took place at the Maritime University: individual championship in pulling oneself up. Ten persons took part in the competition.

We should say that all the participants showed excellent results. Pavel Martynov gained the first place (27 pulls), Andrey Grishko won the second place (24 times) and Yaroslav Nomokonov took the third place (23 times).

But for the exams, there ought to have been far more participants.

Welcome back to the motor rally participants

On June 6 the motor rally devoted to the Days of Slavic Written Language and Culture finished. Exactly at 16 hours, as it had been planned, with their headlights and signaling on, the cortege drove into the campus of the Maritime State University. There the MSU Rector V.I.Sedykh and other officials and journalists met them. The cadets were lined up on the drill ground.

The Championship in kick-boxing among students was held in Vladivostok for the first time. Teams of seven local Universities took part in it.

Sports and athletics event is over

From December 2004 to May 2005 a major comprehensive sports and athletics event was held at the Maritime State University. It was the 56th time; this year it was devoted to the 60th anniversary of Great Victory. About 1200 cadets and students of all the Faculties took part in it. A specific feature of this event: for the first time girls took part in it. Male teams competed in 12 kinds of sports and female teams in 7.

Oars to water

Traditionally, the Maritime State University opens a new water sports season in Primorsky Krai. On May 26 a Regatta starts in the water area of the Amursky Bay. 49 years ago Yevgeny Zhukov, Chief, Department of Ship’s Control, offered to hold regattas. The idea was implemented and became a good tradition. A lot of alumni attend its opening, they recollect their sports achievements and are happy that the Regatta is still existent.

The third issue of a literary magazine

The "Far East" Magazine came out in Khabarovsk (No.3, May-June 2005). There are some Primorsky people among its 28 authors: Vasily Litvin, Alexander Bryukhanov, Anatoly Bochinin and others.

Military relay race revived

A militarized relay race timed to the 60th anniversary of Great Victory is over. It was resumed after long years of break. Despite the long pause in its existence, there were a lot of those wishing to take part in the event. Seven teams competed in shooting in a gallery, race with gas-masks on, carrying a casualty, bending arms in a lying position, disassembly of a Kalashnikov submachine-gun and raising a weight.

Safety of navigation duscussed in english

On April 21, 2005 a Project "Shipboard and Dockside Security" was presented by navigation cadets at the Department of Maritime English. The 4th and 5th -year cadets spoke in English about issues of ensuring safety on board ships and in port. Five more years flew very quickly and former alumni met again. It is a tradition for graduates-1965 of the Engineering Department - to get together every five years in the MSU. Streetball competitions are over

The MSU is holding sports events dedicated to the 60th anniversary of Victory Day. Recently streetball competition finished here. During 10 days 27 teams comprising 112 cadets and students played this new kind of sports.

The chief referee of the event N.A.Moskalyonova noted the participants’ great sports tension, fair play and great desire to win. The teams that won the competition were awarded with diplomas and the best players with medals.

Exhibitions in the MSU museum

Two new exhibitions opened in the MSU Museum: an exhibition of computer drawings by sea-going captain M.V.Sobolevsky and an exhibition of post cards about the Great Patriotic War collected by E.G.Stepanova, former MSU staff member and the oldest stamp and card collector of the city.

Way of flower: new birth in the expert’s hands

On September 23 - 28, 2005 a Festival of Ikebana from Niigata Prefecture will be held under the above motto. It is timed to the 150th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Russia and Japan and 15th anniversary of sister-city relations between Vladivostok and Niigata.

Russian “Lexicon”

Of late a lot of encyclopaedic editions came out about modern Russian literature. Another one is a 545-page volume “Russian Writers. Modern Age. Lexicon. An Outline of Future Encyclopaedia”.

Discussion about Vysotsky

During two hours members of various writers’ unions discussed a book “Thirst for Being. Vysotsky is a Poet of an Epoch, Pushkin of the 20th Century” written by Alexander Turchin, member of the Literary Studio “Sails”. The author looked into Vladimir Vysotsky’s poems about the war.

Books in the round-the-world voyage

Vyacheslav I. Sedykh. Rector of the Maritime State University gave Vladimir Tytskikh, head of the Literary Studio “Sails” books whose fly-leaves are covered with stamps and seals of the international ports visited by the “Nadezhda”. It is hardly probable for the authors of the book “Three Names” V.Tytskikh, V.Protasov and V.Silkin to think of their work travel around the countries and continents.

State examination has been passed

Three years ago the MSU Institute of Management Faculty of Additional and Correspondence Training launched a Program of additional higher education “Interpreter in the sphere of professional communication” (English). The Program was scheduled for three years of training; this year it envisages four years of training.

The MSU cadet among the city contest winners

This year spring started with the Contest “Miss and Mister Students of Vladivostok – 2005”. The Contest was held for the first time. Vladivostok Mayor V.V.Nikolayev headed the judges. All the Universities selected their nominees and their fans. The students gathered in the FESCO Hall (Sailors’ Club).

One year ago the Nadezhda returned from her round-the-world voyage

On 28 March it is one year since the training sailer Nadezhda owned by the Maritime State University came back from her round-the-world voyage. The long expedition (the voyage lasted 14 months) opened round-the-world voyages of the 21st century.

The MSU team is among prize-winners

From 3 to 6 March there were an Open Winter Personal and Team Championship and Championship of the Far Eastern Federal District in Marine Triathlon timed to the 60th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. The MSU team led by coach Yevgeny Zinyuk took part in the event which included three kinds of sports: swimming, race and shooting. Our participants did not let us down: the MSU team occupied the second place among 15 participating teams after Khabarovsk participants.

“Sails” in the first springtime festival

On March 12 the First Spring Festival of Vladivostok poets was held. Its participants were the MSU Literary Studio “Sails”, Literary Association “Grey Horse”, Creative Association “Beams”, young authors who launched a literary and musical project “Reading-Matter”, Literary Association “Third Friday” and independent poets, representatives of various universities of our town. Journalist and poet Yelena Vasilyeva was a host of the event.

Living a life with a book

The working hours were reduced because of bad weather, a lot of cultural events were canceled in Vladivostok. Despite the snowfall the Pushkin Theater invited guests to the literary and musical soiree “Living a Life with a Book”. People did come, surprisingly, they were numerous.

On the day of fathernald’s defenders

The MSU marked the Fatherland’s Defenders’ Day by a festive meeting and concert. The 1st Vice-Rector V.F.Gamanov addressed those who gathered with greetings and expressed special gratitude to those who served the country during a great number of years and continues to educate the young in the spirit of patriotism, loyalty to Motherland and readiness to defend the country. They are retired admiral, former C-in-C of the Russian Pacific Navy, now MSU Rector’s aide in charge of patriotic education G.A.Khvatov, retired rear-admiral Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Naval Training A.V.Makarenko, former commander of a submarine, Dean of the Faculty of Naval Training V.A.Ivanov and many others.

Happy journey!

There is a sequence of partings with alumni at the Maritime University. There was a farewell party for 8 graduates of the MSU Marine College who studied at Group No.441. Their specialty is organization of carriages and transport movement management. All of the boys intend to continue their education.

A laureate of international contest

A pleasing news flash came from New York (the USA). The International Pushkin Scholars’ Society which held a “Pushkin Lyre” Contest for the 14th time summed up its results for 2004. Poet Vladimir Tytskikh became one of the laureates. His “January Song” among others was called the best in the nomination “Lyrics for a Song”.

The first issue of the “Far East”

The first issue in 2005 of the Russian Literary Magazine “Far East” came out in Khabarovsk. There is narration in stories “Perspicacious Heat” by leader of the “Sail” Literary Studio with the MSU named after Admiral G.I.Nevelskoy Vladimir Tytskikh. There are also names of laureates for 2004, among them Yuri Kabankov (poems, letters and an essay “Outcome” published in “FE” issues Nos.1, 2 and 3). Journalist Alexander Kulikov also became a laureate for his poetry “The way home” published in “FE” No.4.

The ice-breaker “Krasin” in the MSU museum

A TV program “Open Horizon” was shot at the Museum of the Maritime State University. TV film makers were interested in the ice-breaker “Krasin” model made by Nikolay Ivanovich Kondyrev back in 1953 and kept in our Museum. The TV men were invited to the MSU and helped with material by G.I.Nesov, Chairman of the Board of Marine Ecological Fund with the Primorsky Regional Administration, MSU alumnus.

Humanization is upbringing

On 31 January a session of the MSU Academic Council was held. There was one item on the agenda which arouse common interest, a great number of questions and different opinions – “A concept of teaching social subjects at the Maritime State University”. V.M.Kononv, Vice-Rector in charge of social, personnel and educational work spoke on the subject. The theme sounded wider and deeper as it was connected with the general concept of humanitarization and humanization of engineering education and in the final analysis became a conversation about a triple problem: training – upbringing – morality.

"Nadezhda" forever

Today is two years since the sailing training ship "Nadezhda" owned by the Maritime State University set out for a round-the-world voyage.

The sailing ship was on a voyage during 14 months having returned happily home on 28 March,2004. The voyage was long, difficult and interesting.

Autographed books gifted to museum

More than 650 books autographed by their authors were given to the Arsenyev Museum by Vladimir Tytskikh, well-known Primorsky writer (nowadays he is heading the Department of Information and Press of the Maritime State University).
