In the course of the meeting of the delegation with the MSU Rector V.I.Sedykh, a Memorandum of Mutual Understanding between the two Universities was signed, it is aimed at working out a program of exchange and cooperation in the spheres of mutual interest.
The guests also visited the Institute of Sea Protection, the MSU Simulators Center and the MSU Museum. RF FA State Duma Deputy   November 17, 2005Holiday again! There was another cultural event at the Institute of Eastern Asia: on November 3 they celebrated the Day of Japanese Culture. It is “bunka-no-ho” – the Day of Culture in Japan on November 3. The festive program included ikebana class conducted by 3rd-year students guided by Ms. Nakadzima Kadzuko, the IEA teacher. Then there was a quiz prepared by 2nd-year students. N.N.Kuzmenko, the IEA Director presented a collection of Japanese crockery. At the final part of the festival a tasting of Japanese dishes was carried out.

The Olympiad for Primorsky students was held at the Vladivostok State University of Economics and Services. The jury included leading specialists in the sphere of social work. Last year our team won the third place. Alexander Anatolyevich made his career from the third officer to the first deputy RF transport minister. In 2000 he became director general of the FESCO. He did research starting from 1985. He worked at his thesis from 1992.

The "Golden Fund" was instituted on 1 November, 2000. Teachers, graduates, cadets and students of our University whose achievements gave them this right are inserted in the Book.
During 5 years the "Golden Fund" sign was given to 44 persons. Five more were awarded on the eve of the jubilee: Sergei Darkin, Primorsky Governor, Yevgeny Ambrosov, FESCO DG. Vladislav Subbotin, the MSU professor, 10 times world champion in ship modeling, Mikhil Kargin, lecturer and trainer and Alexei Porokhin, a navigation cadet. Press Service of the Maritime State University | more |   October 31, 2005Training for a japanese company The Maritime State University is becoming an international center of training specialists for merchant marine of not only Russia, but also other countries. Of late the MOL, the shipping company from Japan signed an agreement with the MSU on training seafarers to work aboard its ships. The MOL is one of the leading companies engaged in sea transportation; it is the world biggest holding owning 650 ships of different type and purpose. The Company is planning to increase the number of its ships to 1,000 in the near future. Their crews need highly qualified officers. The MOL leadership is aware of a high level of officers’ training at the Maritime State University - its graduates selected by the Russian Company FES-Contract are working on board Japanese ships.

On the Initiation Day the weather was not welcoming either. It kind of warned would-be seamen: their trade will require courage, self-control, acquired toughness and good health. Despite the low temperature in the Assembly Hall, the feeling of solemnity did not leave those present. The Hall was full of students, their parents, guests and teachers. The University banner was brought in to the sounds of the Maritime University hymn. After a solemn oath a command was given, "Put on jacks, a symbol of marine glory!" On 23-25 September in Settlement Lozovy at the Primorsky Regional Championship in 500-meters distance the team of the Maritime State University occupied the second place.

The participants were greeted by G.P.Turmov, Deputy of the Primorsky Regional Legislature. Despite the fact that the Far Eastern territories are separated by great distances, traditionally, representatives of the Magadan, Kamchatka, Sakhalin, Khabarovsk Regions and the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) gather in Vladivostok. Primorsky Krai, as usual, is represented by Vladivostok, Ussuriysk and Nakhodka. It was organized by the Association of Pacific Region Universities (APRU). The working language of the Conference is English only. The Maritime University was represented by two cadets: Stanislav Grabchuk, Company 25, Marine Engineering Faculty and Maxim Otto, Marine College. They met in the final fight for those weighing up to 63.5 kg. Stanislav Grabchuk won a very intensive fight and took the first place.

Some days ago within the framework of the Vladivostok Art Festival "Ikebana-2005" timed to the 150th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Russia and Japan, an exhibition was held and an origami workshop was held in the MSU Institute of Eastern Asia. Its theme sounded like the Festival motto: "The way of a flower is a new birth in master’s hands". The workshop was conducted by IEA teacher and volunteer from Toyama prefecture Ms.Makadzima Kadzuko and origami teacher of the MSU School-Studio M.I.Semyonova.

The Game will take place on 21-22 September in the Conference Hall of the University. The Game follows the lines of the UN sittings. Every team is a delegation of this or that country discussing urgent problems like disappearing animal species, world terrorism etc. The task of the Game is to try to resolve pressing issues without infringement of interests of one’s country and respecting the position of neighbors. Press Service of the Maritime State University | more |   September 9, 2005Russian championship in sailing continuedPeter the Great Bay Cup - Russian Championship in class Konrad-25P is going on. 30 crews of yachts from Moscow, St.Petersburg, Kazan, Perm, Yekaterinburg, Zhelezniigirsk, Komsomolsk-on-Amur and Khabarovsk. Primorye is represented by yacht clubs from Vladivostok ("Seven Feet", TURNIF and the MSU), Slavyanka, Nakhodka, Bolshoy Kamen and Podyapolsk. Five MSU yachts are taking part in the Championship. 18 more yachts of different classes are participants of the regatta Peter the Great Bay Cup, six of them belong to the MSU yacht club.

The Maritime State University organized it for the 24th time. 48 yachts from clubs of Vladivostok, Nakhodka and Khabarovsk took pat in the prestigious race this year. 14 of them represented the MSU. The race distance is from Fyodorov Bay, Vladivostok up to Minonosok Bay in Slavyansky Bay. For the 24th year in succession it is held by the Maritime State University with support of the Primorsky Regional Yachting Federation. This year the competition will last three days - on 5, 6 and 7 August. About 40 yachts and 200 sportsmen will take part. Coca-Cola Bottlers Vladivostok Company is a general sponsor of the event.

It was headed by Executive Director of NSG College Group Mr.Kawasaki. The purpose of the visit was to make proposals on cooperation in the sphere of training. 22 colleges are functioning at the Prefecture, students are being trained in 150 specialities and the doors of Japanese training institutions can also be opened for students of the Maritime State University.

Of 47 graduates six got honors degrees.

He is an author of books of translations of works by H.Heine, classical German poet and English poet Emily Dickinson, as also some books of his own poems.

In this connection ships carrying trainees of marine education institutions of Japan, Korea and China call at Vladivostok. The leadership of the Marine College is satisfied with these graduates. Two cadets (Roman Kulik and Mikhail Pyshny) were rewarded with honors degrees, nine passed their state examinations excellently. All of them will be remembered well.

Numerous advertising leaflets told visitors about research developments in the sphere of ecology, power engineering and ship repairing. Among them there were the MSU 5th-year navigation cadet Anton Taranchenko, the 4th-year student Irine Voronyuk and the 3rd-year student Yulia Palkina. All of them are learning with honors, taking part in public life and are respected by their colleagues and teachers.

About 60 teams from Vladivostok, Partizansk and Andreyevka took part in it. The MSU team participated in three classes of boats: "open" (the most prestigious) class for 19-40 year-old men, combined students’ teams and mixed class (six men and four girls).

E.G.Zelenina headed the Department and N.B.Frank was appointed the YC leader. Exactly one year passed. On June 15 the YC gathered its performers, assistants and guests at the party to mark the birthday together and sum up the first results.

We should say that all the participants showed excellent results. Pavel Martynov gained the first place (27 pulls), Andrey Grishko won the second place (24 times) and Yaroslav Nomokonov took the third place (23 times).
But for the exams, there ought to have been far more participants. Exactly at 16 hours, as it had been planned, with their headlights and signaling on, the cortege drove into the campus of the Maritime State University. There the MSU Rector V.I.Sedykh and other officials and journalists met them. The cadets were lined up on the drill ground.

It was the 56th time; this year it was devoted to the 60th anniversary of Great Victory. About 1200 cadets and students of all the Faculties took part in it. A specific feature of this event: for the first time girls took part in it. Male teams competed in 12 kinds of sports and female teams in 7.

  May 11, 2005Military relay race revived A militarized relay race timed to the 60th anniversary of Great Victory is over. It was resumed after long years of break. Despite the long pause in its existence, there were a lot of those wishing to take part in the event. Seven teams competed in shooting in a gallery, race with gas-masks on, carrying a casualty, bending arms in a lying position, disassembly of a Kalashnikov submachine-gun and raising a weight.

It is a tradition for graduates-1965 of the Engineering Department - to get together every five years in the MSU. This time their get-together coincided with the 40th anniversary of their graduation. 30 out of 76 were able to attend the meeting, some could not come and some will never come: life is life.

Recently streetball competition finished here. During 10 days 27 teams comprising 112 cadets and students played this new kind of sports.
The chief referee of the event N.A.Moskalyonova noted the participants’ great sports tension, fair play and great desire to win. The teams that won the competition were awarded with diplomas and the best players with medals.

Rector of the Maritime State University gave Vladimir Tytskikh, head of the Literary Studio “Sails” books whose fly-leaves are covered with stamps and seals of the international ports visited by the “Nadezhda”. Irina Pimenova | more |   March 15, 2005The MSU team is among prize-winnersFrom 3 to 6 March there were an Open Winter Personal and Team Championship and Championship of the Far Eastern Federal District in Marine Triathlon timed to the 60th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. The MSU team led by coach Yevgeny Zinyuk took part in the event which included three kinds of sports: swimming, race and shooting. Our participants did not let us down: the MSU team occupied the second place among 15 participating teams after Khabarovsk participants.

Its participants were the MSU Literary Studio “Sails”, Literary Association “Grey Horse”, Creative Association “Beams”, young authors who launched a literary and musical project “Reading-Matter”, Literary Association “Third Friday” and independent poets, representatives of various universities of our town. Despite the snowfall the Pushkin Theater invited guests to the literary and musical soiree “Living a Life with a Book”. People did come, surprisingly, they were numerous.

The International Pushkin Scholars’ Society which held a “Pushkin Lyre” Contest for the 14th time summed up its results for 2004. Poet Vladimir Tytskikh became one of the laureates. His “January Song” among others was called the best in the nomination “Lyrics for a Song”.

There is narration in stories “Perspicacious Heat” by leader of the “Sail” Literary Studio with the MSU named after Admiral G.I.Nevelskoy Vladimir Tytskikh. There are also names of laureates for 2004, among them Yuri Kabankov (poems, letters and an essay “Outcome” published in “FE” issues Nos.1, 2 and 3). Journalist Alexander Kulikov also became a laureate for his poetry “The way home” published in “FE” No.4.

TV film makers were interested in the ice-breaker “Krasin” model made by Nikolay Ivanovich Kondyrev back in 1953 and kept in our Museum. The TV men were invited to the MSU and helped with material by G.I.Nesov, Chairman of the Board of Marine Ecological Fund with the Primorsky Regional Administration, MSU alumnus.

The sailing ship was on a voyage during 14 months having returned happily home on 28 March,2004. The voyage was long, difficult and interesting.
