News for february, 2005 February 24, 2005On the day of fathernald’s defenders The MSU marked the Fatherland’s Defenders’ Day by a festive meeting and concert. The 1st Vice-Rector V.F.Gamanov addressed those who gathered with greetings and expressed special gratitude to those who served the country during a great number of years and continues to educate the young in the spirit of patriotism, loyalty to Motherland and readiness to defend the country. They are retired admiral, former C-in-C of the Russian Pacific Navy, now MSU Rector’s aide in charge of patriotic education G.A.Khvatov, retired rear-admiral Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Naval Training A.V.Makarenko, former commander of a submarine, Dean of the Faculty of Naval Training V.A.Ivanov and many others.

These days Professor of the Department of Higher Mathematics Tatyana Grairovna Beleicheva – the only woman in our University who is twice Doctor (Doctor of Technical Sciences and Doctor of Transport) is receiving congratulations. She is an outstanding personality worthy of respect and admiration. We wish her success in all her undertakings.

There was a farewell party for 8 graduates of the MSU Marine College who studied at Group No.441. Their specialty is organization of carriages and transport movement management. All of the boys intend to continue their education.

The International Pushkin Scholars’ Society which held a “Pushkin Lyre” Contest for the 14th time summed up its results for 2004. Poet Vladimir Tytskikh became one of the laureates. His “January Song” among others was called the best in the nomination “Lyrics for a Song”.

During three years the demand for such specialists exceeds the number of graduates, i.e. all the electric engineers are employed by the FESCO, PRISCO, SAKHCO and other shipping companies.

There is narration in stories “Perspicacious Heat” by leader of the “Sail” Literary Studio with the MSU named after Admiral G.I.Nevelskoy Vladimir Tytskikh. There are also names of laureates for 2004, among them Yuri Kabankov (poems, letters and an essay “Outcome” published in “FE” issues Nos.1, 2 and 3). Journalist Alexander Kulikov also became a laureate for his poetry “The way home” published in “FE” No.4.
Press Service of the Maritime State University   February 9, 2005The ice-breaker “Krasin” in the MSU museum A TV program “Open Horizon” was shot at the Museum of the Maritime State University. TV film makers were interested in the ice-breaker “Krasin” model made by Nikolay Ivanovich Kondyrev back in 1953 and kept in our Museum. The TV men were invited to the MSU and helped with material by G.I.Nesov, Chairman of the Board of Marine Ecological Fund with the Primorsky Regional Administration, MSU alumnus.

There was one item on the agenda which arouse common interest, a great number of questions and different opinions – “A concept of teaching social subjects at the Maritime State University”. V.M.Kononv, Vice-Rector in charge of social, personnel and educational work spoke on the subject. The theme sounded wider and deeper as it was connected with the general concept of humanitarization and humanization of engineering education and in the final analysis became a conversation about a triple problem: training – upbringing – morality.
