Titans’ battle: marine engineering faculty versus navigation department

On May 27 the 49th Regatta started at the MSU Water Station. Virtually all the faculties sent their teams of two yawls and the MEF and ND three each. In all 21 yawls took part in the Regatta.

Conference "Medical physics" at the maritime university

On May 30-31 the Far Eastern Regional Conference "Medical Physics and the Latest Medical Technologies" is taking place in the MSU. Its organizers are Russian Transport Ministry, the MSU Marine Physics and Engineering Institute, the FEB RAS International Research Center "Arctic", the Russian Academy of Technological Sciences and the Institute of Medical Physics named after U.H.Kolvillem.

Day of excellent students

On May 27 Rector of the Maritime State University held a reception in honor of excellent students. At our University an excellent student is the one who gets only excellent marks during four semesters. Speaking in sportive terms, the lath is high and few can overcome it. But there are 250 excellent students in the MSU - every 14th full-time student. Every Faculty can be proud of its bright trainees.

Autorally on the Days of slavic written language and culture

May 24 is the Day of Saint Cyril and Methodius. Days of Slavic written language and culture are organized in many Russian regions in commemoration of the Saints. The festival started in Primorye on May 16 when the Fifth Educational Readings opened in the FENU.

Sports and athletics event is over

From December 2004 to May 2005 a major comprehensive sports and athletics event was held at the Maritime State University. It was the 56th time; this year it was devoted to the 60th anniversary of Great Victory. About 1200 cadets and students of all the Faculties took part in it. A specific feature of this event: for the first time girls took part in it. Male teams competed in 12 kinds of sports and female teams in 7.

The last bell ceremony in the msu lyceum

The last school bell. It is both joyful and sad both to the teachers and pupils. On May 25 the last bell sounded for the graduates of the MSU Lyceum. The atmosphere of the event was warm, farewell speeches were full of words of affection and gratitude.

Oars to water

Traditionally, the Maritime State University opens a new water sports season in Primorsky Krai. On May 26 a Regatta starts in the water area of the Amursky Bay. 49 years ago Yevgeny Zhukov, Chief, Department of Ship’s Control, offered to hold regattas. The idea was implemented and became a good tradition. A lot of alumni attend its opening, they recollect their sports achievements and are happy that the Regatta is still existent.

The UN session at the maritime university

On May 25 guests from Australia came to the Maritime University. The MSU Center of Cultural Exchange together with the Australian Rotary Club representatives are organizing an international business game MUNA - a model of the United Nations Organization. Now the second stage of preparation will begin.

Life like a legend

A literary soiree-presentation of the Book "Life like a Legend" published in the popular publishing program "New Book" took place in the Arsenyev Museum. It is a book of recollections about Vasily Yefimovich Chernyshov who was First Secretary of the Primorsky Regional CPSU Committee during 10 years.

Prospects of cooperation

A guest from Pousan visited the Maritime State University. Mr. Gan Su Lee, Director of the Center of International Exchanges and Cooperation of the Korean Maritime University met with V.F.Gamanov, the MSU First Vice-Rector to discuss further cooperation within the framework of a Memorandum signed by our Universities in 2002.

A research-and-practical conference at the institute of management

On May 19 the 3rd Research and Practical Conference "Urgent Problems of Economy and Management in Transport" was held at the Institute of Management. About 50 reports presented at the Conference came from Moscow, St.Petersburg, Khabarovsk, Vanino, Komsomolsk-on-Amur and Kamchatka.

A research and practical conference about technical condition of the fleet

On May 18 the Second Regional Research and Practical Conference "Maintenance of the Fleet. Ways of its Improvement" ("Fleet-05") began at the Maritime State University. It was organized by the MSU named after Admiral G.I.Nevelskoy, FESCO, PRISCO, Russian Expert and Marine Surveyors’ Corporation and Pacific Inspection of the Russian Marine Register of Shipping.

Successful performance of the MSU wrestlers

The MSU team of free-style wrestlers was a success at the Primorsky Regional Sports and Athletics Event "Students’ Games-2005". Our team became third among eight. Four wrestlers gained prize places in the personal championship.

The third issue of a literary magazine

The "Far East" Magazine came out in Khabarovsk (No.3, May-June 2005). There are some Primorsky people among its 28 authors: Vasily Litvin, Alexander Bryukhanov, Anatoly Bochinin and others.

There is also a review of a literary and arts almanac "Sikhote-Olymp" published by the MSU Publishing House in 2003.

Test for readiness

On May 17 at 13 hours 33 minutes an alarm signal sounded in the first MSU building: a fire broke out in a classroom. Luckily, it was a drill "Control of the MSU Civil Defense and Emergency forces when combating an emergency. The University staff evacuation during a fire".

Studio members’ books about WW2

On the eve of the Victory Day the MSU Literary Studio issued new works about the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Recollections of the military front artist Victor Andreyevich Vaganov brought about a documentary book “For Honest Memory” (author Vladimir Tytskikh).

Guests from Japan in the MSU

On May 11 the ship “Kayo Maru” owned by the Higher Marine School of Niigata Prefecture, Japan arrived at Vladivostok. The Japanese cadets pay annual visits to the Maritime University during almost a decade.

Military relay race revived

A militarized relay race timed to the 60th anniversary of Great Victory is over. It was resumed after long years of break. Despite the long pause in its existence, there were a lot of those wishing to take part in the event. Seven teams competed in shooting in a gallery, race with gas-masks on, carrying a casualty, bending arms in a lying position, disassembly of a Kalashnikov submachine-gun and raising a weight.

In April 1983 a challenge cup named after Colonel K.I.Pivovarov was established at the Far Eastern Higher Engineering Marine College (now the Maritime State University) to award the best company in drill.

Students met with veterans

On May 4 on the initiative of the Cadets’ and Students’ Councils a literary and musical soiree on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War was held. Veterans and teachers of our University Yevgeny Ivanovich Zhukov and Amir Glimovich Khamatov were invited. The venue was a cozy students’ cafe.

Meeting with bards at the Marine college

Soirees commemorating the Great Victory are being held at the MSU. Some time ago such a function was held at the Marine College. Decades separate us from those great events. The meetings in memory of the Great Victory should not turn into officialdom.

Primorski participants were up to the mark

The first All-Russian military and patriotic rally of cadets’ classes of the Russian Federation general education institutions - this was the name of a major event held in St.Petersburg and Murmansk recently. The rally was timed to the 60th anniversary of Great Victory.
