On 12 December there was a meeting of the University Rector Vyacheslav Ivanovich Sedykh and supervisors in the Assembly Hall of the Nevelskoy MSU.

On 14 December V.I.Sedykh met with active members of the Students’ and Cadets’ Councils.

On 15 December another sitting of the Rector’s Office took place. One of the items an the agenda was “Measures being taken by the Rector’s Office for ensuring normal social and everyday conditions for cadets and students, raising the role of the Students’ and Cadets’ Councils in carrying out youth policy at the University”.

Please meet Japanese checkers

Last weekend the Third Go Cup of Consul General of Japan in Vladivostok was held in the MSU Institute of Eastern Asia. 20 persons took part in the championship.

On completion awards were handed by Consul General of Japan in Vladivostok Mr.Kamohara Masayoshi. The Go game is scores of times more difficult than chess.

At present more and more experienced chess players show interest to the game. Annuallly numerous international European competitions are organized.

18 oarsmen, one drummer and one man at the wheel can be accommodated aboard a racing boat with a dragon’s head. To be a success in this kind of sports, one needs excellent health and a sense of rhythm together with a team spirit.

At the European “Dragon” Boat Rowing Championship that completed in Prague the Russian national team won the European Cup of Nations as the strongest European rowing team. The national team brought home 7 golden, 5 silver and 3 bronze medals.

“Peter the Great Bay Cup”Finished with Vladivostok Yachtsmen’s Victory

Russian Championship in Sailing for “Konrad-25P” class yachts finished in Vladivostok. It was the biggest and long-awaited annual regatta of the Far East. It lasted ten days.

Sportsmen from 18 Russian cities and towns took part in the races. In all, 32 crews participated, the greatest number for the last few years.

This year the Nevelskoy Maritime State University was represented by 13 crews, eight of them were aboard “Konrad-25P” class yachts.

Ceremonial meeting of the group of students from the University of Incheon (Republic of Korea) took place at the MSU Institute for International Education on September, 4th, 2006. “Shipboard University” is back home

The sailing ship “Nadezhda” is back after an ecological expedition. During seven years expeditions of the “Far Eastern Shipboard University” take place aboard the sailcraft “Nadezhda”. Researchers, teachers, post-graduates and students of RAS and Russian higher education institutions take part in studies aboard the ship. This year ecologists of the International Fund of Animal Welfare, biologists of the RAS Oceanology Institute and about a hundred of cadets of the Maritime State University named after G.I.Nevelskoy are participating.

The 35th World Canoeing Championship was successful for Russian sportsmen. Master of sports of international class in rowing, the MSU student Ivan Shtyl became the world champion.

The Championship was held in Seged, Hungary on 16-20 August.

Ivan Shtyl is a champion of Russia, Europe and the world champion among youths.

From the “Far Eastern Shipboard University”

Our voyage to Korsakov took some three days. During all that period the FESU equipment worked continuously ensuring round-he-clock monitoring of the atmosphere and upper layers of the Okhotsk Sea along the ship’s course. On 3 July at about 13 hours the ship moored at the 3rd Southern Pier. The cadets and crewmembers loaded and discharged the equipment consigned to the Kholmsk MSU branch.

A NEW REGATTA STARTING

On 18 August a “Vladivostok-Preobrazheniye-Vladivostok” sailing race organized by the Maritime State University is starting in the Amursky Bay. It is the first race of this kind. The participants are cruising yachts of one ton and more. The regatta is timed to the anniversary of Preobrazheniye settlement marked on 19 August.

ONE CHAMPIONSHIP BRINGS 13 MEDALS!

The Russia’s Championship and Russia’s Cup in ship modeling was held in Bryansk on the Desna River on 4-8 August. Teams from Chalyabinsk, Kaluga, Moscow and other Russian regions took part in it. Renowned world, Europe and Russia’s champions including the ten- times world champions Vladislav Subbotin (MSU, Vladivostok) gathered there. They competed in classes of radio controlled and high-speed cord models.

HEROES REWARDED

Last Sunday one of the best-known and complicated regattas in Primorsky Krai – Admiral Nevelskoy Cup finished. 54 yachts of all Primorsky Krai took part in the 25th regatta. After the three-day intense competition the winners in all classes of cruising yachts were rewarded on 8 August. The yachtsmen of the Maritime State University won 12 out of 25 prizes, five of them being the first ones! The MSU team has got the Nevelskoy Cup again.

“Nevelskoy Cup”. Summing up the Results.

Last Sunday the annual Nevelskoy Cup Regatta finished in the area of the Amursky Bay. The 25th Regatta was organized along a new route in three stages: Fyodorov Bay – Gerasimov and Sidorov Islands (entry to the strait); Gerasimov Island – Minonosok Bay; Sibiryakov Island – Tsivolko Island – Fyodorov Bay (MSU harbor). During three days the Regatta participants tried to find out who was the strongest among them.

Camp of Chinese and Russian Maritime Universities on 24-30 July, 2006

The chairman of the CPR and RF President decided that the Year of Russia in China and the Year of China in Russia (2006 and 2007 respectively) are a new page in the history of relations between China and Russia. This event is of great significance for developing strategic partnership between the two countries. It does not only promote exchanges and cooperation in all spheres, but also advances good-neighborly relations and strategic cooperation between China and Russia to a new level. The event is developing cultural exchanges of the two countries, helps popularize both cultures and strengthens traditional friendship between the two peoples.

On 4 August a Nevelskoy Cup Regatta will start in the water area of the Amursky Bay. The competition is being organized by the Maritime State University named after Admiral .I.Nevelskoy and Primorsky Regional Federation of Sailing. This year it will be the 25th Regatta.

Five years ago, on 1 August, 2001 the Department of International Activities was set up at the Maritime State University.

On 1 August, 2006 the Training and Housing Complex of the International Service marked its fifth anniversary. There are 51 people in its staff. About 22,000 people stayed in the Training and Housing Comlex. They were representatives of more than 30 Russian regions.

International Camp for Students of Maritime Higher Education Institutions

On 22 July a delegation of students, cadets and teachers of the Maritime University set out on a friendly visit to Dalyan (China) to take part in the International Camp for Students of Maritime Higher Education Institutions.

The Camp of Chinese and Russian Maritime Universities gathered students of the Nevelskoy MSU, Fishery University (Vladivostok), State Maritime Academy named after S.O.Makarov (St.Petersburg), Dalyan Maritime University, Shanhai Maritime University, Uhen Maritime University and Tzimei University (Makao).

The MSU delegation includes 19 students and 4 teachers.

The CPR Communications Ministry, People’s Government of City Dalyan, RF Transport Ministry and the Dalyan Maritime University organized the event.

The Chinese side prepared plenty of training, cultural and entertaining events. Every day of staying in the Camp of Maritime Universities was filled with new information. Russian students were given a chance to learn to tie Chinese knots, make Chinese meat dumplings and play international badminton when two participants of each side have their legs tied together (2 persons = 3 legs).

Third Group of IAIT Graduates

On 28 July the third group of graduates of the Institute of Automation and IT were awarded with their graduation diplomas in three specialities: ‘Means of communications with mobile objects’, ‘Independent information and controlling systems’ and ‘Automated information processing and control systems’.

This year IAIT diplomas of graduation were handed to 56 persons. Nine of them got honors degrees.

MSU Yachtsmen are Winners once again!

On 23 July yachtsmen of the Maritime State University came back from Japan after the end of a regatta “2006 19th Michinoku Bank Seikan Cup Yacht Race”.

The Regatta began on 15 July from the port of Hakodate (Hokkaido Island). The participants from the Asian Pacific Region were supposed to cover the route up to the port of Aoomori (Honsyu Island). They has to fight against a strong constant current of the Sangary Starit and oppose feeble winds of the Aomori Bay.

The participating yachts were divided into two groups. The first and more numerous one embraced sailing boats with ORC measurement certificates and the other one, so-called “free” (open) class included the rest of them. The MSU yacht “Commodore Bering” (skipper 1st Vice-Rector Vladimir Gamanov) won the first place in the “open” class. The sailing boat reached the finish on 16 July 10 hours after the start. The Russian yacht “Fantasy” (Yachts Club “7 Feet”) won in the ORC class.

This year is the third time the Technological Institute says good-bye to its graduates. On this great day the graduates were congratulated by those who was with them during all five years of their training: director of the Maritime Technological Institute Lev Borisovich Leontyev, chief of the Curriculum Department Alexander Dmitriyevich Yuzov, dean of the Technological Faculty Vladimir Mikhailovich Datsun, heads of chairs Vladimir Mikhailovich Khodakovsky and Sergei Borisovich Budrin and deputy dean of the Technological Faculty Svetlana Yuryevna Umnikova.

On 10 July, 2006 the Technological Faculty turns four! Despite its young age, six chairs set up in 1944 – 1946 are subordinated to the Faculty.

He entered the Nevelskoy MSU following his father’s example who graduated from the Marine Engineering Faculty of the FEHEMC. From 2002 Victor got a Faculty and University scholarship, was rewarded with numerous letters of thanks and diplomas for his excellent results and active participation in creative life of the University. In the 5th year he received a Primorsky Governor scholarship. He defended his graduation project in English.

On 1 June our city marked the Child’s Day. The Nevelskoy Maritime State University took part in celebrations: some Institutes collected clothes and toys for the children staying in an orphanage. At first I also was about to bring something, but then I decided that if you wish to do something really good and kind and necessary, you should do it on one’s own from beginning to end. I went to an orphanage for the first time. It impressed me so much that I went there again shortly afterwards.

Exhibition of Natalya Forikova’s paintings

On 27 June an inauguration of the Exhibition of paintings by Natalya Forikova “My Beautiful Country” was held in the Arsenyev Regional Museum. Natalya is a journalist and author of books of poems. At present she is working with the Center of Intercultural Exchanges of the Maritime State University. Her pictures were exhibited in five exhibitions. The paintings are made according to the author’s method reminding needlework: embroidery or bead braiding. Every painting consists of some layers which makes the picture look specially warm and voluminous. The exhibition will last till 16 July.

Handing Vladivostok scholarships

In the House of Children’s and Youth’s Creativity a meeting of Vladivostok Scholarship holders with Vladivostok Mayor Vladimir Nikolayev took place. 223 students of higher and secondary education institutions of the city became Vladivostok Scholarship holders. In 2005-2006 academic year 32 students of the Maritime State University were recommended for the Scholarship.

Notably, this year the scholarship granted annually to the best Vladivostok students increased more than twice. Lat year it made Rbls.200, while this year it is Rbls.500. The numbers of the scholarship holders increased eight times, from 50 to 400 persons. The number of the MSU students holding the scholarship increased from four to 32 people against the lat year.

There are first two graduates at the Institute of International Education of the Maritime State University. They are teachers of the MSU Institute of Eastern Asia a Korean Li So Rim and a Japanese Imada Emi. While teaching Russian students their native languages, they became students for some time. The teachers took a course of Russian as a foreign language. The certificates of training passed will be handed on 23 June at 1200 in the MSU Rector’s Reception Room.

A new tradition came into being at the Department of Maritime English – holding of annual group projects whose main participants are senior cadets. “And the voice was ringing louder than sounds of thawing icicles…” is the name of a new collection of poems presented in the Klyo Salon of the Arsenyev Museum. The authors are children of 7-17 years old – participants of the Primorsky regional contest announced on 10 September, 2004 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War. 247 children sent 1504 poems. Poems by 49 authors were published in the collection.

Captain V.Vasilenko who made the first circumnavigation in the third millennium aboard the sailing ship “Nadezhda” owned by the Maritime State University and the master of the barque “Kruzenshtern” owned by the Baltic State Fishery Academy O.Sedov currently making a round-the-world voyage met in Kaliningrad in 2003. Celebration of the submarine navy jubilee

On 21 March there was a meeting devoted to a centenary of the submarine fleet. 100 years ago the Russian Emperor signed a decree by which submarines were declared a separate class of battle ships. Vladivostok became a cradle of the Russian submarine fleet.

There are quite a few submarine officers among the MSU teachers. The MSU Youth Center prepared a concert for them.

A cellular communication network “MegaFon – Far East” within the framework of the circumnavigation of the barque “Kruzenshtern” together with Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd present a Project “Sails of your Dream”. Four subscribers of the “MegaFon- Far East” will sail from Vladivostok to Hong Kong aboard the legendary sailing ship as crew members of the round-the-world expedition. On 28 March, 2006 the sailer will arrive in the port of Vladivostok. On 6 April four MegaFon subscribers – cadets of the higher marine education institutions will leave for southern China.

100th anniversary of a.s.frolov’s birthday: researcher, poet, composer, chess player, man

Anatoly S. Frolov was born on 24 January, 1906. In 1932-1936 he was a student of the Odessa Institute of Water Transport Engineers. In 1936 he was sent to the Far East. From 1947 to 1952he headed the Department of Marine Transport Operation and Deputy Chief of the VHMC.

There is an exhibition of paintings by the MSU workers and students. It is timed to the 8 March. Its epigraph is “Any day spring reigns in my soul”. You can see the pictures by N.G.Levchenko, Chief of Internet/Intranet Maintenance Department with the IT Center, A.Osokina, the Lyceum student and K.Loskutova, a student of the IEA Institute. Although their works differ in genres, they all are joyful, light and creative – typical of spring. Come to the Museum to see them. The exhibition will last till 1 April.

On 26 February, 1908 the first world lady – sea-going captain was born. Anna Ivanovna witnessed hard, but glorious pages of our history. What is the circumnavigation like?

What is circumnavigation generally associated with? With books read in one’s childhood, stories about brave old salts and romanticism of adventures… What will you feel if today someone will tell you about a round-the-world voyage aboard a sailing vessel? The book “Round the World with Hope” is about such a voyage, the first Russian circumnavigation in the 21st century. Distinguished himself and joined the Far Eastern team

Our first-year student Alexei Rusak (Management Institute) is back from the All-Russian Track and Field Competition. He carried out a norm of Candidate to Master of Sports in high jumping. Alexei was able to overcome the height of 2m 2 cm and he joined the Far Eastern combined track and field team that is leaving for Volgograd to take part in some competition on 5-6 February.
