On 29 March another session of the “Old Town” Historical Club” took place at the MSU named after Admiral Gennady I.Nevelskoy. It was timed to a centenary of the Russian submarine fleet.

Welcome, the KRUZENSHTERN!

On 28 March the barque “Kruzenshtern” arrived in Vladivostok. She is a training ship owned by the Baltic State Fishery Academy. She moored at berth 33 where Primorsky Governor, Vladivostok Mayor, Pacific Navy Commanders, marine cadets and people of Vladivostok met her.

”Megrabov readings” again

On 22 and 23 March a Regional Youth Scientific and Engineering Conference “Megrabov Readings” took place in the MSU named after Admiral G.I.Nevelskoy. It became the third one. The purpose of the Conference was to attract talented young people to solving a problem of increasing transport efficiency on innovative basis by introducing promising energy-saving technologies, new materials, automation and mechanization of labor-consuming production processes.

Celebration of the submarine navy jubilee

On 21 March there was a meeting devoted to a centenary of the submarine fleet. 100 years ago the Russian Emperor signed a decree by which submarines were declared a separate class of battle ships. Vladivostok became a cradle of the Russian submarine fleet.

There are quite a few submarine officers among the MSU teachers. The MSU Youth Center prepared a concert for them.

Autorally on the days of slavic written language and culture

On 16 March a literary soiree devoted to the “Far East” magazine was held in the Fadeyev Library. A collection of impressions of the last-year rally devoted to the Days of Slavic Written language and Culture in the Far East “For the Sake of Only One Word” published at the MSU was also presented there.

Sails of your dream!

A cellular communication network “MegaFon – Far East” within the framework of the circumnavigation of the barque “Kruzenshtern” together with Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd present a Project “Sails of your Dream”. Four subscribers of the “MegaFon- Far East” will sail from Vladivostok to Hong Kong aboard the legendary sailing ship as crew members of the round-the-world expedition. On 28 March, 2006 the sailer will arrive in the port of Vladivostok. On 6 April four MegaFon subscribers – cadets of the higher marine education institutions will leave for southern China.

100th anniversary of a.s.frolov’s birthday: researcher, poet, composer, chess player, man

Anatoly S. Frolov was born on 24 January, 1906. In 1932-1936 he was a student of the Odessa Institute of Water Transport Engineers. In 1936 he was sent to the Far East. From 1947 to 1952he headed the Department of Marine Transport Operation and Deputy Chief of the VHMC.

Future radio engineers got their graduation certificates. Their course of studies was quite difficult: 13 people are left out of 24 entrants. Ivan Artamonov graduated with honors degree. He was also a leader of the group.

Higher marine education is 62

Our University became a higher education institution in the wartime, on 5 March, 1944. Thus, the 5th of March became a birthday of higher marine education in the Far East. More than 15,000 specialists graduated from the Maritime University during the past years.

Engineering cadet yuri areshin is MISTER STUDENT

The first day of spring and the first day of the open city festival “Students’ Spring – 2006”. The coincidence is not accidental, as spring is the season particularly loved by students. A colorful and lively contest “Miss and Mister Students” became a kind of bridge from cold and monotonous winter dullness to warm and bright spring days. Spring has come to the IEA!

On 3 March the Department of Chinese Philology arranged an event timed to the Chinese New Year, which is in fact a Festival of Spring. Here were a lot of teachers and students present. Quizzes and contests ended with handing souvenirs. Those learning at additional course of Chinese performed some musical turns.

Romanticism of westerns with primorsky origin

Local historian B.A.Dyachenko emphasized, “If Primorye had a writer like Fenimor Cooper capable of sing about our land! A nook like Sidimi Bay is worthy of script and novel writers’ attention!” At his lecture Mr.R.Brinner told about some pages of Primorsky history connected with his ancestors’ biographies.

On 1 March the MSU met Rock Brinner, a son of the well-known Hollywood star Yul Brinner who acted in the “Great Seven” – one of the first action films which was on in Soviet movie theaters in late 60s.
