MSU MEETING GUESTS

Guests from the Dalyan Maritime University visited the Nevelskoy Maritime State University. Our Maritime Universities have been maintaining friendly relations for 20 years. The purpose of the last visit was discussing a program of staying in a summer camp in Dalyan.

Exhibition of Natalya Forikova’s paintings

On 27 June an inauguration of the Exhibition of paintings by Natalya Forikova “My Beautiful Country” was held in the Arsenyev Regional Museum. Natalya is a journalist and author of books of poems. At present she is working with the Center of Intercultural Exchanges of the Maritime State University. Her pictures were exhibited in five exhibitions. The paintings are made according to the author’s method reminding needlework: embroidery or bead braiding. Every painting consists of some layers which makes the picture look specially warm and voluminous. The exhibition will last till 16 July.

Handing Vladivostok scholarships

In the House of Children’s and Youth’s Creativity a meeting of Vladivostok Scholarship holders with Vladivostok Mayor Vladimir Nikolayev took place. 223 students of higher and secondary education institutions of the city became Vladivostok Scholarship holders. In 2005-2006 academic year 32 students of the Maritime State University were recommended for the Scholarship.

Notably, this year the scholarship granted annually to the best Vladivostok students increased more than twice. Lat year it made Rbls.200, while this year it is Rbls.500. The numbers of the scholarship holders increased eight times, from 50 to 400 persons. The number of the MSU students holding the scholarship increased from four to 32 people against the lat year.

Day of memory and grief

On 22 June, 2006 to the accompaniment of rain, representatives of the City Hall, Veterans’ Council, Regional Legislature, Regional Department of the Russian Culture Fund, MSU Information & Press Department, cadets and students laid wreaths to the Eternal Fire guarded by “Varyag” Cadets’ School.

To teach and to learn

There are first two graduates at the Institute of International Education of the Maritime State University. They are teachers of the MSU Institute of Eastern Asia a Korean Li So Rim and a Japanese Imada Emi. While teaching Russian students their native languages, they became students for some time. The teachers took a course of Russian as a foreign language. The certificates of training passed will be handed on 23 June at 1200 in the MSU Rector’s Reception Room.

Two meetings

A Moscow writer Vasilina Orlova had two meetings with Vladivostok public. She took part in a motor rally-2006 via the Primorsky Krai and Khabarovsk Region. Orlova is an impressive representative of young Russian people of letters. She has got her personal site in the Internet and opened her Web magazine “Organon”. In 1998 she joined the Russia’s Writers’ Union.

Pivovarov cup – topicality through decades

For over 20 years a Colonel Pivovarov Cup Competition is being held at the Maritime State University. Within a month cadets pass a series of special traditional tests. They are checked for appearance and observing uniform requirements, knowledge of statutes, drill, marching and performing drill songs.

Cultural landing party out in the sticks

The third rally devoted to the Days of Slavic Written Language and Culture in the Far East finished. The six cars that took part in it were met at the drill ground of the Nevelskoy Maritime State University with brass band march. Then they gave interview to media.

Problems of Timber Transportation are Being Resolved in the Maritime University

On 14 and 15 June representatives of the RF Transport Ministry, Federal Agency of Marine and River Transport, Federal Service of Supervision in Transport Sphere, Central Research Institute of Merchant Marine, Far Eastern Research Institute of Merchant Marine and Maritime State University are gathering in the Maritime State University. The occasion is a research and practical conference “Ensuring Safety of Timber Transportation by Sea in the Far East”.

“Today we will not deliver long reports. I offer to put forward concrete ideas and solutions of problems!” These words by Yaroslav Semenikhin, Director, SOROS FE Branch opened the regional conference.

Music of changes

“The day I dreamed of has come”, said Isabel Francois, director of NATO Information Bureau in Moscow opening a meeting “Russia – NATO: Uniting Efforts” in Vladivostok. Ms. Francois also said that technical progress makes the countries depend on each other, it makes us realize a common task of preventing global catastrophes.

The world changes when we are changing!

Kathy Shose is a councilor of a deputy in legal matters, M.A. in political science and international relations. During her meeting with 4-year navigation cadets she answered question on legal bodies functioning in Alaska, her impressions about Vladivostok and attitude to Russians in her country. The town Homer in Alaska where Kathy is staying is also a port similar to Vladivostok in its climate and a little smaller in length.

The best university graduate–2006

On 2 June the Fifth Primorsky Regional Competition “The Best University Graduate-2006” finished. There were ten participants in the finals including two MSU students. Anna Baragunova won in the nomination “For Vividness and Charm”. Ivan Kucherenko was the winner in the nomination “For Optimism”.

The MSU participation in marking the 115th anniversary of Cesarevich Nikolai in Vladivostok

On 30 May the weather happened to be overcast and cheerless, which is typical of Prumirsky summer. Crimson tulips and carnations held by the Maritime University students and cadets looked even brighter contrary to the gloomy day.
