News for january, 2008 January 25, 2008Graduation Papers defended! During the last week presentation of graduation papers took place at the MSU Navigation Department. Cadets of Company 12 defended their papers in the Nautical Astronomy Room where not long ago they looked for celestial bodies on the celestial globe and studied a sextant. The role of the expedition was both important and symbolic. 200 years before the sailing ship also called Nadezhda made the first Russian circumnavigation headed by seafarer Ivan Kruzenshtern. The agenda included presentation of the innovative development by Dmitry Nikolayev “Device for Adjusting and Testing Thermal Protection Equipment”.
FEITC | more |   January 22, 2008One, two, three – dip and come to the surface On the morning of 19 January the weather was frosty. It was Epiphany. There were plenty of orthodox believers who followed a religious rite of dipping three times into the ice-hole at the “Seal” Club. There were our cadets, students and staff members among them. Alexander Ivanov, chairman of the MSU Students’ Council told me that it is a tradition for him and his friends to bathe in an ice-hole on Epiphany since 2006. It makes him healthier. He is sure that every one who will try will enjoy it. The New Year’s Day of 2008 became fairy for Yevgenia Boyar, EAI student and leader of MUNA – International Youth Game. The MSU Center of Cross-Cultural Exchanges held the MUNA Assembly in June 2007 with participation of volunteers from Sydney Barry Filps and George Beirutti. Yevgenia saw the New Year in in Australia at the high point of summer. Today eight families are staying there, in all over 40 people. The Project leader is Oleg Petruk. His wife and he bring up 9 children both their own and adopted.
