MSU : SCIENCE : POST-GRADUATE COURSE

Post-Graduate Course

The Post-graduate course of the MSU named after Admiral G.I.Nevelskoy was set up in late 1968 on the following specialities:

  • 05.08.01 “Naval architecture”;

  • 05.08.04 “Technology of shipbuilding, ship repairs and shipbuilding organization”;

  • 05.08.05 “Ship’s power plants and their elements (main and auxiliary ones)”;

  • 05.09.03 “Ships’ electric equipment”;

  • 05.22.16 “Navigation”;

  • 05.22.19 “Water transport operation”.

As a new nomenclature of specialities was approved, alterations were made in the names of specialities. Speciality 05.08.01 is named “Naval architecture and structural mechanics”. Specialities 05.22.16 and 05.22.19 are united in “Water transport operation, navigation”. In 1994 speciality 05.13.12 “Systems of design automation” was opened, research supervisor is professor V.V.Kuzlyakina, doctor of engineering. Two more specialities were opened additionally in 1999:

  • 02.00.04 “Physical chemistry”, research supervisor professor B.B.Chernov (Dr. of Eng.)

  • 01.04.03 “Radio physics”, research supervisor professor O.A.Bukin (Dr. of Eng.)

  • In 2000 speciality 19.00.03 “Labour psychology, human engineering, ergonomics” was opened and licensed.

  • In 2001 speciality 08.00.01 “Economic theory” was opened and licensed.

At present 112 post-graduates are studying in 11 specialities at the post-graduate course, 71 of them are full-time trainees. The number of research supervisors is 28, 15 of them are doctors and professors.

Documents are admitted annually from 01.10 to 31.10.

Entry examinations are organized annually from 01.11 to 29.11.

Examinations:

  1. A special subject as per standards of higher professional education;

  2. A foreign language (English);

  3. Philosophy.

Enrolment takes place before 30 November.

The term of study at the full-time post-graduate course is three years, in part-time course four years.

Candidate examinations:

Candidate examinations are organized from 1 to 30 June and from 1 to 30 November in philosophy and the foreign language. A candidate examination in speciality is to be taken in the last year of training before defending a thesis. Foreign postgraduates take a candidate examination in the Russian language.

Annual attestation is held in a respective department from 01 to 30 November, then approved by the Academic Council of a respective Faculty (Institute or another administrative structure).

Regulations on Postgraduate Course

Persons having higher professional education are admitted to the postgraduate course on the basis of a competition. Postgraduate training is full-time and part-time.

An application for admission to the postgraduate course is to be presented to rector of the Nevelskoy MSU together with the following documents:

  1. A copy of a graduate degree;

  2. A list of published papers, inventions and reports on scientific research or an essay (on discretion of the department where a postgraduate will study);

  3. Certificates on passing candidate examinations;

  4. An identification card and a certificate of a graduate degree.

Enrolment to the postgraduate course takes place annually within the terms established by the Nevelskoy MSU rector. An admission commission is headed by rector (vice-rector in charge of research).

The admission commission looks into documents of applicants to study at the postgraduate course. The applicants are to be interviewed by a supposed research supervisor. The admission commission takes a decision whether to allow an applicant to take entry examinations on the basis of interview results.

Entry examinations are conducted by commissions appointed by rector of the Nevelskoy MSU.

The entry examinations are not to be taken for the second time. The results of the entry examinations are valid within a calendar year.

On the basis of results of entry examinations takes a decision about admission to the postgraduate course.

Postgraduates use equipment, laboratories and libraries free of charge.

The University (Faculty) Academic Council effects control over postgraduates’ work.
