Skipper Gek - the mentor of the Far Eastern sailors

On April 8, as part of the work of the Marine Section of the Primorsky Branch of the Russian Geographical Society - the Society for the Study of the Amur Region, the film Friedolf Gek. From sea to sea was shown. Members of the Russian Geographical Society and cadets of the Navigation Faculty of ANMSU took part in the event. The film is dedicated to the legendary whaler, the pioneer of the development of the Ussuri region, the explorer of the Sea of Okhotsk, who stood at the origins of the fish protection of the Far Eastern seas, the famous skipper Gek. It was shot by an international film crew in Nakhodka, St. Petersburg, Finland (Turku), Vladivostok, and Bezverkhovo (Sidemi). The director and producer of the film is Mila Kudryashova, the known documentary filmmaker. The name of Friedolf Gek is closely related to the history of the Maritime University. Unfortunately, the 26-minute film could not tell about all the vicissitudes of his life. Rather, it told about the people who keep the memory of the free skipper: his great-grandson, the descendants of his sister in modern Finland, and the museum and exhibition center in Nakhodka, which collects information about the famous whaler.
