She wanted to study at the Maritime University ...

A very special nominal grant appeared in the Maritime State University - in memory of a Japanese student Hiraoka Miyako, who dreamed of studying at the Maritime University. Yesterday, August 2, Pro-Rector for International Relations, VS Gaponenko solemnly presented the certificate to the first fellowship holder - student at the University of Shimane Nakada Kantа.

As the chief of the MSU International service OY Koretsky said, Hiraoka Miyako, a freshman at the University of Shimane , first set foot on deck of "Nadezhda" in 2009 in the port of Hamada. A miniature smiling girl was delighted with the sailing ship and the tour, which was performed for the guests by MSU cadets. She was photographed with them in memory and hit on the idea to learn Russian, to come a year later to Vladivostok, the Maritime University for an internship. But the dream was not to be fulfilled: a few weeks later, the girl, returning from work late at night to the dormitory, was killed by a rapist. She was only nineteen, her death shocked not only Japan but also all the teachers and students of our university. In memory of Hiraoka Miyako the Maritime University established a scholarship in her name. It is awarded to one of the students at the University of Shimane providing an opportunity of free training in a short course of Russian in MSU.
