The Conference considers business concepts and approaches to the implementation of projects in the Northern Sea Route sub-region

On December 7, representatives of the ANMSU scientific block took part in a representative online Conference of the Arctic authorities of the Republic of Korea and the Russian Federation. Minister of the Republic of Korea to the Arctic Council Mr. Lim Hong-Min, representatives of the Russian Embassy in Seoul, the Korean Maritime Institute (KMI), the Korean Research Institute of Shipbuilding and Ocean Engineering (KRISO), the Korean Polar Research Institute (KOPRI), Yongsan University (Busan ), Incheon National University, Skolkovo School of Management, Northern Arctic (Arkhangelsk) and North-Eastern (Yakutsk) Federal Universities, Saint Petersburg State University, and Krylov State Scientific Center took part in the Conference,. The purpose of the Conference was to present and discuss the vision of various state and scientific and educational institutions on the possibility of implementing cooperation projects in the Arctic, including on the basis of the Northern Sea Route. KMI, the institution that shapes the national maritime and fisheries policy of the Republic of Korea, was the initiator and coordinator of the event. It should be noted that KMI was the first among the state research institutes of Korea to start active cooperation with Russian partners. The Admiral Nevelskoy Maritime State University was the first partner of KMI. Since 2015, our scientific cooperation has been successfully developing. Currently, the Russian team of experts and researchers from the REC Sea Transport and Spatial Logistics is completing work on a joint research development New business concepts and approaches to the implementation of projects in the sub-region of the Northern Sea Route. In his speech at the Conference, Rector's Assistant for Research Mikhail Kholosha analyzed proposed and promising cooperation projects in the Arctic. He drew attention to the experience gained in the implementation of Russian-Korean projects in general, but noted that we are very good at developing strategic documents, there is certain tactical progress - for example, the construction of Arctic-class ships in South Korea by order of Russian companies. But, unfortunately, we have few really successful joint business projects that could become a beacon for Korean investors. At the end of the Conference, the representative of the KMI management Kim Min-Su spoke about the concept of creating a research consortium of Korean and Russian scientific and educational institutions for the study and development of the Arctic and invited the Conference participants to think about the optimal mechanism for implementing this format. Taking into account all the circumstances, as well as based on 30 years of experience of successful cooperation between our countries after the establishment of diplomatic relations, the research consortium on the Arctic looks like an attractive and mutually beneficial initiative. It is important for it to become a successful project of operational cooperation, and does not limit itself to beautiful, but ineffective plans and declarations.
