Online classes for inspectors of the port state control of the Far East

The Far Eastern Maritime Training Center (FEMTC) of the Maritime State University of Admiral G.I. Nevelskoy improves the distance learning system for maritime transport specialists in the Russian Far East. This year, FEMTC held the first classes in early February, offering students, port state control inspectors, hybrid technology - using the traditional classroom method for a part of the students, as well as distance learning for another part. On March 22, a new course was launched under the program «Training of port state control inspectors over ships flying the state flag of the Russian Federation using computerized accounting», which involved port state control inspectors from other Pacific seaports of Russia: Sovetskaya Gavan, Nikolaevsk-on -Amur, Olga, Petropavlovsk-on-Kamchatka, Moskalvo, Nevelsk, Kholmsk, Poronaysk, as well as Nakhodka and Vladivostok. Attracting such a wide remote maritime audience became possible after the generalization of the first teaching experience, when it became clear that it was necessary to make changes to the technical means and improve the software platform for conducting webinars. The new courses were conducted exclusively for remote students at their workplaces. Both organizers and trainees are aware of the positive and negative aspects of distance teaching when compared with the traditional classroom method. A decision was made to preserve both formats of interaction between the instructor-teacher and the student, as well as to further develop the modern digital method of delivering educational material.
