International webinar on transboundary issues in the Bering Strait region

On March 24, one of the first webinars dedicated to transboundary problems in the Coastal Strait region was held at the Faculty of Environmental Safety and Offshore Development of ANMSU. The webinar was organized at the initiative of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Among the participants were representatives of WWF Russia and the United States, students and professors from the Arctic Research Center of the US Coast Guard Academy, students and teachers of FESOD. During the meeting, an acquaintance of the participants took place, as well as the issues to which subsequent discussions will be devoted were discussed. Among them are the topics of scientific works and interests of the faculty, namely, the identification of risk zones of emergencies (O) in the Bering Strait zone, methods for determining the ecological sensitivity of the area, the peculiarities of the use and distribution of forces and means of oil spill response operations in ice. Of particular interest among foreign partners and WWF representatives were the reports of the students of the FESOD about such a risk factor as spray icing of ships. As well as tests carried out with sorbents to clarify technical characteristics when used in different conditions and to determine the toxicity of oil-saturated sorbents at the ANMSU research site.
